| #1wraithstrikeMay 25, 2008 15:49:02 | I have noticed that dragons, specifically those that study the prophecy stay away from Sarlona like it is the plague, but there has never been any information as to why. I think(can't remember clearly) there was something about how the prophecy does not even refer to it, almost as though the prophecy is blind to it. |
| #2AmarilMay 25, 2008 16:59:57 | Dragons of Eberron covers this a bit. Essentially, the prophecy is blind to Sarlona for reasons unkown. In contrast, it seems to manifest very strongly in Khorvaire. The dragons also suffer from "sickness" if they delve into psionics at all, too, which is naturally prevalent in Sarlona even before the Inspired occupation. |
| #3snarky_monkeyMay 25, 2008 22:48:29 | Didn't I also read somewhere that Gem Dragons are the result of Quori experiments to breed incredibly powerful hosts? Would be another reason dragons would avoid it, look how they feel about half dragons. I can't imagine them feeling any better about the home of a race that meddled in their own development. |

It's in a sidebar in Dragons of Eberron. I personally did not care for it. |

| #6mystrichMay 25, 2008 22:59:39 | I believe Secrets of Sarlona makes a small reference of how Dragons ignore Sarlona all together. Tying these too tidbits together, either they are scared to delve into the continent, or just refuse the idea of it's existence to it being not included in the all-knowing prophesy. There's also a Volcano in Adar that is always surrounded by clouds. It is believe Blue Dragons watch over it due to a powerful Rajah being sealed there in the Demon War. |

It says it may be the reason, one of those up to the DM things. It also list that abomination that looks like a dragon as a possible result of dragons experimenting with psionics. |
| #8AmarilMay 26, 2008 0:20:45 | There's also a Volcano in Adar that is always surrounded by clouds. It is believe Blue Dragons watch over it due to a powerful Rajah being sealed there in the Demon War. Reread Spheres of Korrandar. |
| #9mystrichMay 26, 2008 11:46:20 | Reread Spheres of Korrandar. Never read the whole thing, but it's still a Rajah sealed there, and guarded by Blue Dragons (Storm Guardians). |
| #10AmarilMay 26, 2008 12:32:51 | Never read the whole thing, but it's still a Rajah sealed there, and guarded by Blue Dragons (Storm Guardians). Yeah, but I never got the impression that its a reason why the dragons do not bother with Sarlona much. |
| #11vegetalss4May 26, 2008 14:34:44 | i got a theory. perhaps the properchy is affectting(as in make the signs)/"seeing" the world through the dragonshards, and as there arent any dragonshards in Sarlona neither is there any properchy |
| #12mystrichMay 26, 2008 18:25:12 | Yeah, but I never got the impression that its a reason why the dragons do not bother with Sarlona much. Thread is called Dragons and Sarlona, not Why Do Dragons Ignore Sarlona |
| #13ornitoMay 26, 2008 18:37:24 | They don't. There are dragons in Sarlona, they can probably read prophecies in Siberys and there are probably prophecy marks that appear in the land as most of those are related to Khyber which as far as I know has openings in Sarlona. There are several places dragons exist in Sarlona but I think they avoid Adar for the most part. And the general avoidance of Sarlona is because as dragons meddle with psionics they go insane and become corrupted somehow. I believe the Eyes and perhaps the Light have forbidden the study of psionics so a lot of the dragons in Sarlona are rogues. But there's a great wyrm brass dragon cruising around Sarlona and there's the Storm Guardians. |
| #14AmarilMay 26, 2008 19:18:06 | Thread is called Dragons and Sarlona, not Why Do Dragons Ignore Sarlona Read the OP again. | #15wraithstrikeMay 26, 2008 19:26:39 | Vegetalss4 that is an interesting theory and I never knew there were no shards there. However I was under the impression that the blindness of Sarlona to the prophecy, among other reasons* was why the dragons dont bother with it other than a few placed agents. *I beleive one of the other reasons is that any involvement with Sarlona could prove detrimental to someone's existence in a future event. The dragons might not know what that event is, but they might know through process of elimination, that if it is directly associated with Sarlona. I have not written this into my campaign yet because I want to know how what just has not been clarified yet, and what is up to the DM to decide specifically. |
| #16ornitoMay 26, 2008 19:31:12 | And the introduction to the Dragons of Sarlona section from Dragons of Eberron says that there are dragons in Adar who do study the prophecy. For whatever reason though the dragons aren't as interested in Sarlona as they are in Khorvaire. Likewise they're not as interested in Xen'drik as they are in Khorvaire. Sarlona is the homeland of the coatls so it could be something as simple as an ancient agreement to not infringe on each others land that the dragons have held true to to honor the coatls. Or it could be that the dragons fear the Dreaming Dark. Its something for a DM to decide but to say there are no dragons present in Sarlona or to say that there are none who study the prophecy there is going against what's written about the subject in a sourcebook. |

Or it could be that the dragons fear the Dreaming Dark. There are ancient places in Sarlona thay may have part of the prophecy, and the dragons have agents there, but as a whole they prefer to not be there or deal with psionics. I think it is wise to have agents in place to alert the other dragons on events that may take place, and to keep the quori where they are as much as they can without making it noticeable. It seems that the qouri would have moved in on Khovaire a long time ago without some outside influence. bolded are is IMHO |
| #18ornitoMay 26, 2008 19:49:39 | Regardless they've got Sarlona written up as an area which for some reason is not mentioned in the prophecy. And the reason why is up to the DM. But from material on Sarlona there are dragons in Sarlona, the majority of them rogues, some present to study the prophecy, or its absence, and there are dragons who dabble in psionics though most end up insane in one form or another. Saying the dragons completely ignore or avoid Sarlona is a bit misleading. I'd say they're about as present in Sarlona as they are in Xen'drik. And those levels of involvement would probably be similar in Khorvaire except for the presence of Dragonmarks among the younger races. And keep in mind that just because a prophecy mark appears somewhere doesn't mean the prophecy it contains is about that location. It seems that the point of Sarlona and its relation to the Prophecy is that the Prophecy doesn't say anything about the events of Sarlona. That doesn't mean the events of Sarlona can't say something about the rest of Eberron. |

I was not saying they wont go there, but they will avoid it if possible, sending only a few, and I don't think the prophecy that is there is about Sarlona(directly). It could be about things that happened to Khovaire or any other place. I think the dragons have many reasons to keep agents there, but they only send a select few to go there. It is not like they are shaking in their claws, but more more like the situation where you only send in your best agents since it has to be done, and to use a real-life example that bad neighborhood that you only go through when you absolutely have to. |
| #20ornitoMay 26, 2008 20:06:03 | Well then I find myself in pretty much complete agreement with you. I think rereading a lot of the thread I ended up replying more to the ideas others have said that the dragons are relatively absent in Sarlona. And you're right, the organized dragons of Argonnessen only send their best to study and serve in Sarlona but many rogues prefer life in Sarlona to the Vast or serving in the Light. And as to be expected there are many dragons born in Sarlona who never learn of the huge cultural heritage of the dragons. These rogues and their offspring, though, are present in Sarlona, Xen'drik, and I suppose Khorvaire though there's a much larger organized interest in Khorvaire which overshadows the rogues. |
| #21Hideous_PhidiasMay 26, 2008 22:29:28 | I reason that the Dragons stay away from Sarlona is because of their mistakes with the Giants. The Dragons are the ones that gave the knowledge to the Giants that they use to rip away the plane of Dreams and make the thirteenth moon out of orbit. The Dragons don't like to be reminded about that past mistake. There is also the fact the prophecy seems to lack knowledge about this area of the world, is a direct result of the war between the Giants and the Quori. |
| #22wraithstrikeMay 26, 2008 22:38:41 | There is also the fact the prophecy seems to lack knowledge about this area of the world, is a direct result of the war between the Giants and the Quori. The prophecy was around before the Quori invasion, and if the prophecy stopped being relevant at that point it may have been the case, but there has been nothing written stating that Sarlona ever had anything written about it in the prophecy. It just seems that for whatever reason Sarlona has a giant nondetection spell, for lack a better analogy, that blocks the prophecy. |

| #30guyrtheadamantineoneMay 26, 2008 23:15:25 | Done. Back to the subject at hand: In my game I'd say one of the reasons few dragons hang around Riedra would the will-weakening domes and the propension of leaders in the region to Mind Seed ''troublesome'' individuals. I guess snoopy flying lizards are in that category of visitors. |
| #31wraithstrikeMay 29, 2008 23:18:34 | Done. That could be possible, but breaking a dragon's will is tough to do, and if he notices the attempt(just remember that only the host dies, not the quori). I guess dragons might not want to be there. |
