| #1TalaeApr 27, 2009 22:31:29 | Where do I find info on Earth Nodes and traveling with them? I can't seem to find anything anywhere... My Google-Fu has failed me. I would also love some pics too, if possible. |
| #2GiloApr 28, 2009 3:18:59 | You mean Google Latitude? |
| #3TalaeApr 28, 2009 8:04:06 | I mean the in-game things. |
| #4GiloApr 28, 2009 8:11:57 | oh, You mean something like the Tumbler from Magic of Eberron? |
| #5TalaeApr 28, 2009 8:31:54 | That works. Maybe I should clarify. In my game, I have a House Vadalis experimental facility that the PCs have found. In this facility they are testing on more than just animals (humanoids, abberrations, etc.). I thought it would be cool to have an interesting means of transportation built into the facility that the PCs would not be able to take with them. At first I was thinking teleportation, but the tumbler could work as well. Any other ideas? |

That said, things like them aren't unheard of in Eberron... Arcanix in Aundair sits atop floating chunks of land. The Forgotten Realms Player's Guide includes epic-tier rituals for creating and moving earth motes. In Eberron, since there are virtually no epic-tier casters, let alone ones working for House Vadalis (for reference, Mordain the Fleshweaver has been statted out as level 21 in 4E, and I believe he's the most powerful wizard the Eberron setting books have ever referred to), it's more likely that they'll have some sort of eldritch machine built into the earth mote to facilitate the casting of these rituals. Something like... "The entire earth mote is carefully studded with dragonshards at precise intervals, with complex fittings of brass holding them in place and linking them together in a manner that must be uniquely calculated and calibrated for each mote. At the heart of the mote, the central control station, an ornate device of silver and gold and targath, allows a sufficiently-trained operator to duplicate the effects of the Shift Mote ritual as a 26th-level caster." "When a mote like this is first created, the target landmass must be expertly prepared, a process likely taking months. A sufficiently-large Siberys dragonshard, intact, must be used as a focus in the central control station, allowing a bearer of the Mark of Storm to duplicate the effects of the Raise Land ritual as a 30th-level caster. How House Vadalis was able or willing to enlist a bearer of the Mark of Storm for the initial creation of their secret laboratory is unknown." |

IIRC, Earth Nodes are the FR creation, and are basically the junction points deep within the earth were ley lines (more or less ambient magical currents) intersect. Earth Motes have appeared as early as Secrets of Xen'drik, as a notable feature of Stormreach. They are free-floated masses of rock that may or may not drift through the air. They're not inherently an FR thing, though I suppose the floating enclaves of Netheril might be ur-earthmotes. |
