If Orcs are neutral most of the time, and not underground marauders, shouldn't Mror Dwarves apply this bonus to either Daelkyr or other dwarvish clans? |

If Orcs are neutral most of the time, and not underground marauders, shouldn't Mror Dwarves apply this bonus to either Daelkyr or other dwarvish clans? Orcs aren't planet saving hippies. Orcs are a sentient humanoid race with a range of cultures spread across the continent. In the Demon Wastes they are barbarian tribes - some savage, some dedicated to the Binding Flame. In the Shadow Marches, you have the Gatekeepers, you have the followers of the Dragon Below, and you have people with no loyalty to either ethos. There's also a large number of orcs in Droaam who have carved out their niche in the violent anarchy that reigned there before the coming of the Daughters of Sora Kell. In the Lhazaar Principalities, there are orcs mixed among the pirate clans. Meanwhile, in the Mror Holds, there has been a long history of violence between the dwarves and the orc tribes that lived in the mountains before the dwarves emerged from the depths, most notable the Jhorash'tar. They're mentioned in both the ECS and ECG, so check the Mror holds entry for more. As for alignment, sure, the Jhorash'tar are neutral most of the time. Their attacks on dwarves aren't motivated by EEEEEVIL. They are motivated by a history of conflict and being driven from what they consider to be their ancestral homelands. The Last War devastated the Five Nations... but humans are usually neutral too. You don't need evil to have a bitter conflict. Mind you, the dwarves will tell you the orcs are evil, and the orcs will tell you the dwarves are evil. That's Eberron for you.

The orcs of Western Khorvaire are druidic (in general), but the Mror Holds has native orc tribes of its own that have no connection to their kin in the Shadow Marches. They've been fighting a guerilla war against the Mror dwarves for centuries. Edit: Ninja'd by Hellcow! |
