Meet Kam, a 15-year-old Shifter of the Black Talon tribe. He's a character I'm planning on running in an Eberron game. So far, I'm thinking of tweaking the playtest monk. Renaming the Psionic keyword to Primal or something since the class is the best fit for the character's fighting style (unarmed or light blades). I've pretty much got the background down, just need to fix the stats. I also got bored over the weekend and did a couple of quick character sketches (in the spoiler blocks) for the character at each stage of his life.

That's a pretty cool background. I hope they find a way to get him a tongue again, or he's going to have trouble communicating in the dark! (Food must taste awfully bland, as well!) I think he'll work well as a slightly reflavored monk.

Thanks, I'm speaking with the DM about the mute thing. One option I've offered is that he possess a magic item that allows him to speak while he's wearing it. This would make the muteness and the magic item flavour as opposed to mechanical. If the DM still has a problem we can assume that prior to the game starting, the party took him to one of the dragonmarked houses (the one that does healing) and got the tongue regenerated or something.

In the book "The Rainbow Abyss" the wizard who had his tongue cut out spoke by means of a box hanging around his neck. It had a cloth-backed sound hole cut into the front so that it looked like and old (30's era) speaker. Strings inside vibrated to create his voice.
