| #1telagauntJan 09, 2009 21:13:13 | I've been a bit outta touch with Eberron for a little while. I was wondering if anyone could give me a list of maybe the top 5-10 most powerful NPC's. Class/level wise. I know Vol was/is high up there. LoB too. And a few House leaders were mid-levels. And lots of Inspired agents for PC's to face were wrote up around 10-14th level. But have there been write-ups or new NPC's closer to epic levels? I'm not expecting you know Elminsters and Chosens of Eberron lol. But any known near epic or around Vol's levels? Still alive too, or at least presumed to be. |
| #2skrapsanJan 10, 2009 2:58:06 | I don't have my books at hand right now, but I seem to remember king Boranell being quite high level. Sort of a Chuck Norris of Eberron ^^ |
| #3ieattrollsforbreakfastJan 10, 2009 9:59:35 | Here are a few I can find quickly: 1. Oalian, the Greatpine, druid 20 (plus 32 plant HD) 2. Mordain the Fleshweaver, transmuter 18 3. Jaela Daran, Keeper of the Flame, cleric 18 (in the keep, 3 outside) 4. Vol, half-dragon lich wizard 16 5. Tezaera of Aerenal, cleric 16 6. Belaereth of Aerenal, fighter 2/cleric 12 7. High King Vadallia, bard 3/fighter 10 8. Lhesh Haruuc, fighter 10/rogue 2 9. Lord of Blades, fighter 2/artificer 5/warforged juggernaut 5 The Daughters of Sora Kell deserve to be on the list too, but I can't remember the CRs of the hags. There are lots of Riedrans in the high teens, too. Boranel is only level 10, and two of those are aristocrat, so despite his reputation I don't think he quite qualifies. |
| #4skrapsanJan 11, 2009 5:35:48 | The daugters are CR 17 barbarian CR 18 bard and CR 19 cleric if i remember correctly. Don't remember who is what atm and ive lended out my campaign setting... |
| #5PJammaGodJan 11, 2009 7:51:00 | Sora Katra is a Green Hag Bard 11 Sora Maenya is an Annis Barbarian 10 Sora Teraza is a Dusk Hag Cleric 13 In 3.5e they were some scary-as ladies. The sought of stuff that even high-level PC's (15+) would give a wide berth. Dunno how they would stat out in 4e, but they are probably similarly high-level NPC's not to be trifled with (Maenya would turn you into trifle with her claws alone). |
| #6oidJan 11, 2009 13:50:00 | i think the hags would stat out as low level epics in 4e, 22 23 24 something like that. and i would include the brelish king, for eberron the man's very strong, so's Krozen and Kaius... especial our vampire king friend. and there's a mummy cleric of Vol in karrnath that's cr 10 i believe. there's a ton of high level in Argonessen, tons! most of the dragons they mention are disgustingly powerful... i love the elves but i makes me wonder how they did it? oh, and they don't mention any in porticular (except for the leader of the Death Guard) but the deathless ansectors of Aerenal are very strong. oh and i can't forget the dealkyr. hope that helps.:D |
| #7thaliostJan 11, 2009 20:59:28 | Many high level characters are in Sarlona. All the Inspired city lords are between 15 and 18 levels I believe. There's another lv16 or 17 telepath in Adar, still alive but very old. Not to mention Argonnessen, the land that holds the highest power in the world. You can easily find CR30+ dragons there, speaking of which you should never forget their counterparts in the Lords of Dust :D |
| #8PJammaGodJan 13, 2009 21:32:23 | Everytime I look at Zenobaal (Dragon's of Eberron, Pg 71-4) I get a shiver down my spine. There are epic threats in Eberron, they just cloak themselves in normality or are so old and awe-inspiring that people really don't want to bother them. We have six Daelkyr wandering around the Underdark of Khorvaire, causing all sorts of mischief. No never mind a dragon who thinks he is the prophecy incarnate and destroys any rising threat to his power. Oh and his CR 36 Efreeti ninja cohort... |
| #9thaliostJan 14, 2009 9:42:04 | I don't think anything in Eberron should be 30+, as that would put them in league with Orcus, Tiamat, and the Raven Queen. The high level Argonesseon Dragons would be 25 - 30, the Inspired would be low epic, and the hags would be high paragon. That said, Tiamat does exist in Eberron, prisoned in the Pit of Five Sorrows as Daughter of Khyber. |
| #10PJammaGodJan 15, 2009 1:15:56 | Raw power isn't what makes Tiamat as scary as she is. It's the simple fact that Tiamat can corrupt any dragon (regardless of colour or alignment) with just a look that makes her truly something scary. It doesn't matter if the dragon is a tiny wyrmling or Zenobaal himself, Tiamat's insidious ability to twist and pervert dragons to her dark whims is why every dragon (rightly) fears her possible release from the Pit of Five Sorrows. |
| #11rauricJan 16, 2009 17:50:44 | I am currently running a game where the Cult of Tiamat and Zenobaal are both the PCs enemies. Aen wants the cult stopped because they are getting involved in Prophecy stuff but the PCs went though a magical process that will let them all see the Prophecy on a level that has never been seen sohe will bae after them also if he finds out what they can do. |
| #12PJammaGodJan 18, 2009 7:22:57 | I feel sorry for your group already. Being pitted against Zenobaal is like being pitted against Mr Morden himself. Seems okay on the outside, is a manipulative, evil, cunning and ruthless SOB on the inside... |
| #13rauricJan 18, 2009 18:42:14 | Zenobaal does not know who they are yet and only has a small idea of what they can do. The being who "gifted" them is a red dragon that was interested in the Prophecy but hanging with the Chamber did not work for him. Zenobaal found out what he was doing but was afraid to kill him because he knows that when dragons confront each other and slay one another it is one step closer to Tiamats release. Since none of his killers are strong enough to take on the red Zenobaal himself had to do it. He did not kill Synge (the red) but beat him down and used powerful magic to enchant the dragon into taking the shape of a human and then he imprisoned him in Tronehold. Synge holds a special place in the Prophecy also and Zenobaal fears slaying him for some reason. |
| #14saint_matthewJan 20, 2009 11:57:59 | That said, Tiamat does exist in Eberron, prisoned in the Pit of Five Sorrows as Daughter of Khyber. Really? i don't recall seeing this in any of the official books, did i over look it some where? Also for Dragons in Eberron, i like to have them as mysterious creatures, well beyond the keen or understanding of mortals. Kind of a combination of immortal gods & your average house cat. Pure power combined with ultimate lazyness. |
| #15thaliostJan 20, 2009 12:49:19 | Yes, Tiamat is mentioned in Dragons of Eberron. |
| #16lonewolfJan 20, 2009 19:49:26 | missing from that list above is also King Kaius. Vampire Aristocrat 2/Fighter 11 The mummy High priest of BoV also is CR 12. |
| #17BerenmirFeb 17, 2009 22:28:03 | Here are a few I can find quickly: In what book can Mordain the Fleshweaver be found? I would like to compare his 3.5 stats with the stats of 4th edition. He is a Level 21 Elite Controller monster now. |
| #18PJammaGodFeb 18, 2009 0:36:20 | Mordain never had an actual stat write-up, merely his class and level from ECS. Oh and the new Mordain is some nasty epic controller stuff... |
| #19il_kavFeb 18, 2009 6:42:18 | Mordain never had an actual stat write-up, merely his class and level from ECS. Oh and the new Mordain is some nasty epic controller stuff... where can I find Mordain's 4ed stats ? |
| #20ieattrollsforbreakfastFeb 18, 2009 7:00:08 | where can I find Mordain's 4ed stats ? Here. You'll need a DDI subscription, though. |
| #21il_kavFeb 18, 2009 7:32:19 | Here. I haven't but thanks anyway! :D |
| #22BerenmirFeb 18, 2009 8:54:43 | Mordain never had an actual stat write-up, merely his class and level from ECS. Oh and the new Mordain is some nasty epic controller stuff... I am actually surprised that Mordain the Fleshweaver is an Elite Monster instead of a Solo monster. I guess that the reason for this is that he usually is not alone. His creations fight alongside him. Keith Baker wrote an article for 4th edition a few months ago about the creations of Mordain. It’s very interesting if you want to give a horror touch to your campaign. One of his creations is an awful spider with human body parts. Creepy. |
