| #2NivedSep 01, 2008 22:25:08 | Welol they've already previewed Warforged and the Artificer in Dragon, I suspect every month or two we'll get something. |
| #3HellcowSep 01, 2008 22:30:04 | Any idea when we can start excpecting Eberron preveiws? It's hard to say, but if I had to guess I'd say three months ago with the Warforged info and the Artificer playtest material. ;) There will certainly be additional material in Dragon and Dungeon in the future. If you mean actual excerpts from the Campaign Guide and Player's Guide, given that they are still 10-11 months out and that neither book has gone through playtesting, editing, or development, I'd say we're still months away from that. I'm not tied to WotC, but I'd be very surprised to see any book excerpts before January '09, if then. EDIT: Beaten to the punch by Nived! |
| #4johnkretzerSep 01, 2008 22:37:09 | Thank you both...I am praying they don't do to Eberron what they did to the Realms... |
| #5NivedSep 01, 2008 22:51:14 | Well if by 'what they did to the Realms' you mean "Blow it up and advance the time line 100 years," no, they're not doing that. The Campaign Guide and Player's Guide will remain firmly set in 998yk. While the new races will be addressed, they wont be replacing or supplanting any races that came before. All the fluff material found in your 3rd edition Eberron books is still valid and accurate. |
| #6johnkretzerSep 01, 2008 23:33:52 | Well if by 'what they did to the Realms' you mean "Blow it up and advance the time line 100 years," no, they're not doing that. Yes I know they are keeping the timeline at 998yk. However my concern is how they are going to hammer in(if you will) Dragonborn and Tieflings(in large numbers) and other changes to make it fit in line with the core of the 4th edition game. Right now with what they have done with 4th edition and the Realms I really don't have that much faith in the design team. I am hoping to be surprised... |
| #7HellcowSep 02, 2008 2:09:13 | Right now with what they have done with 4th edition and the Realms I really don't have that much faith in the design team. Well, I'm a member of THIS design team, and I hope you have some faith in me. Looking to the new races, I'm not in a position to say how they're being worked in. What I will say is that they are being added in a way that doesn't contradict the preexisting 3.5 fluff - so Zilargo isn't suddenly becoming a nation of Tieflings, and the Dragonborn don't have a dragonmarked house. We're providing strong hooks for playing characters of these races, but we're also making clear why they haven't had a particularly large impact on the recent history of Khorvaire - thus explaining why they aren't featured prominently in earlier books. And we're trying to give each race its own unique Eberron flavor, just as the elves, Khorvarar, and gnomes aren't the same as their counterparts in other settings. I'm particularly pleased with the story we've developed for the eladrin, and I think people will enjoy it. |
| #8rauricSep 02, 2008 11:39:50 | I am pretty excited about how things will be added. I am currently (well in mid-sept) running a EB 4E game and have sort of handwaved some of the new stuff and rules into my continuation campaign. I realize in a year some of the changes in hte new book may be different than in my game and if it works for me I will "hand wave" it in. Nobody in my game has chosen a eladrin yet so I have not come up with any real ideas there except that they are from Thelanis. |
| #9NivedSep 02, 2008 15:58:40 | Did Daelkyr Halfbloods dramatically change the setting? No? Then relax, new races can be added without going OMGWTF!? |
| #10RedRiderSep 02, 2008 16:53:10 | Nobody in my game has chosen a eladrin yet so I have not come up with any real ideas there except that they are from Thelanis. I think it's fairly likely we'll see some Eladrin communities in the 4E setting. Mostly gathered around Manifest Zones and in some of the larger cities. Hopefully we'll see some Dragonshards on the subject of Eladrin origins, Thelanis and, if it's in the setting, the Feywild. |
| #11rdarcoSep 02, 2008 17:08:17 | I'll second Rauric and Nived. I trust Keith and the design team to put out a good product that keeps the flavor of the setting and lets us use all of the new 4e components. I don't see how you can do that if you don't change the setting somehow. If I don't like a change, guess what? It doesn't get implemented in my campaign. |
| #12NivedSep 02, 2008 22:37:47 | Looks like we're getting more Eberron love in Dragon in September. The Greywall backdrop. Keith mentioned it at Gen Con but didn't say when it'd be out. He referred to it as a 'mini Sharn: City of Towers, or City of Stormreach", a long article detailing the city of Greywall the last piece of civilization before the wilds of Droaam... And to go along with that Keith gives us GNOLLS! I don't remember even a hint of this being whispered at Gen Con... Nice. The only thing I wonder is if we'll see any Dragonborn or Eladrin walking around Greywall.... I do hope these articles are released soon. |

| #14HellcowSep 03, 2008 2:24:18 | Looks like we're getting more Eberron love in Dragon in September. The Greywall backdrop. Keith mentioned it at Gen Con but didn't say when it'd be out. Actually, I didn't think it was coming out for months! And to go along with that Keith gives us GNOLLS! I don't remember even a hint of this being whispered at Gen Con... Nice. Well, I mentioned Graywall at the Secrets of Eberron seminar. The Gnolls article is setting-neutral, even if it's very useful for Eberron. |
| #15NivedSep 03, 2008 6:20:30 | But with Greywall sitting on the edge of Droaam its the perfect place for a Gnoll PC to show up isn't it? |
| #16rauricSep 03, 2008 7:50:04 | The playable "monsters" at the end of the MM always screamed "This is because of Eberron" to me. I am sure there are other factors but I like to think EB helped to place some specific races in that area. |
| #17HellcowSep 03, 2008 14:32:05 | But with Greywall sitting on the edge of Droaam its the perfect place for a Gnoll PC to show up isn't it? Oh, absolutely. I think it will be useful for Eberron players - I'm just saying that it's a "core" article as opposed to being an Expeditionary Dispatch or a Dragonshard. |
| #18isran_imradorSep 24, 2008 16:29:42 | Will there be 4E Dragonshards? |
