| (Reply to #7)AvonRekaes | It's not my favorite Eberron book, but I have used it once before in a game in a way that my players still remember.
The book is about journeys in Eberron, and is split into three main sections: Beginnings, Middles, and Destinations.
The bit I used was from the "middles" sections, which was about interesting things that could happen while trying to get somewhere. There's this non-evil daemon captain of what amounts to a ghost ship that can appear anywhere in front of the PCs. The captain offers to take them anywhere they want, anywhere at all. The price? They have to fight one combat for him. They get on the ship, it's enveloped in mists, and when the mists receed, the ship is elsewhere, ready for the PCs to disembark and fight whatever the captain wants them to. Once done, the captian moves a single chess piece inside his cabin (and there's no apparent opponent that he's playing against), then the ship is shruded in fog again, and then appears whereever the PCs wanted to go.
It's specifically called out as encompassing one of the best formats for traveling in a DnD game. A beginning, a destination, and exactly one interesting encounter in between.
When I used the ship, it appeared to rescue the party from a Daelkyr while they were adventuring in Khyber, then I had the captian send the PCs after an advanced warforged titan (gargantuan size) in the Mournland, and then the PCs asked to be brought to the Eldeen Reaches to talk to the druids about the daelkyr's activities.

I am fond of legal and political intrigue, and the idea of a city outside the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the Sentinel Marshals and the nations in Khorvaire, so close to a lost civilization and mysteries, is a fascinating one. Plus, Keith added some cool ideas there, as resurrection spells gone wrong, among others. |
