| #1grug_the_justAug 25, 2008 12:34:20 | I know it's a tad off-topic but I've come to a decision that I want to get a Dnd related tattoo, more specifically Eberron. My reasoning for such is that I've had a ton of great experiences playing this game for the last 8 years, and it's truly made a positive impact on my life. As such I need help. There are too many choices to make in this regard. So I'm asking for your help. With a couple of criteria.
So, any ideas? Post pictures if possible. |
| #2need_a_lifeAug 25, 2008 13:02:25 | ![]() The least aberrant 'mark on the back of the neck would be my suggestion. :D |
| #3HellcowAug 25, 2008 13:38:51 | Here's a few Dragonmark tattoos people have gotten so far (although I need to update the list - we've had two more pictures sent in that haven't made it on yet). For myself, my dragonmark reflects the role Eberron has had in my life, but it is also a reflection of what I do. I create things for a living, and thus I chose the Mark of Making. My sister works with animals and the outdoors, so she chose the Mark of Handling. Whatever happens to Eberron, I'll always be a creator, so the mark will always suit me. |
| #4mystrichAug 25, 2008 19:16:34 | Though if I did get one, it would have to be an aberrant or possibly the Mark of Xoriat. Just curious, why is this? |

Those are freaking cool! Nice greater mark! I'd definitely consider get a Dragonmark tattoo - they're just vague enough to be cool designs, so it doesn't scream "D&D GEEK!!!" I've been thinking of getting a new tattoo recently, too. Heck, I've already got one RPG-inspired tattoo, why not this? ![]() Again, very cool. ![]() |

| #8PJammaGodAug 25, 2008 22:13:12 | Damn that is some fine inking you've got their HC! Personally I wish I could get something like that, but my partner starts getting out the butcher's knives whenever I mention a passing interest in getting a tattoo... |
| #9grug_the_justAug 26, 2008 12:11:15 | Though if I did get one, it would have to be an aberrant or possibly the Mark of Xoriat. The main reason is that the character that I'm currently writing a story for has the aberrant mark and subsequently the mark of xoriat. Frankly I'm quite attached. He goes into detail when asked "What does it do?" His reply is along the lines of "It gets you excoriated." It could also be the allure of having an exceedingly esoteric Dragonmark. Well, if you do, send me a picture (keith@bossythecow.com) so I can add it to the gallery! That reminds me, I have one to send you. Just gotta take to picture. |
| #10bailey91Aug 28, 2008 18:14:23 | I've been trying to decide which greater mark to get; I'm partial to a Making greater mark, but I really like the Sentinel greater mark as well. What do you guys think? |
| #11mystrichAug 28, 2008 18:49:37 | I've been trying to decide which greater mark to get; I'm partial to a Making greater mark, but I really like the Sentinel greater mark as well. What do you guys think? As Honeycakes stated on Keith's site when talking about their tattoos, Greater marks (at least actual size ones), probably are going to bleed if you don't get black and white. Just something to consider if you're bent on a greater mark. |
| #12That_Blasted_SomoflangeAug 28, 2008 22:10:35 | You know, I was kind of hoping for at least one story where someone got drunk, and decided that a full Siberys mark was a good idea. |
| #13wolffman007Aug 29, 2008 1:57:20 | hey Keith aka hellcow, i sent you a pic of mine the one on my back, i think it was last year & i dont see it up yet..... and no its still not finished ...yet i did the lesser mark of death, not because its death, but because i liked the design. i do prefer the coloring of the abberrant marks over the regular ones thou. i need to get mine colored in & still not sure which way im going to go. the link is in my sig, check it out |
| #14PJammaGodAug 29, 2008 5:07:34 | Whoa now that's a mark! Vol would get goosebumps and her heart might actually beat for the first time in 4 millenia at the sight of that thing! |
| #15aseranAug 29, 2008 17:04:08 | While we're on the subject...has there ever been 'official' art of the Mark of Death? |
| #16mystrichAug 29, 2008 19:03:28 | "Official", I don't think so. His comes from the Marked for Death series I think. |
| #17wolffman007Aug 29, 2008 20:53:38 | i think it was Lee Moyer???, i recall they were auctioned off on ebay, last year maybe? and i dont know if they were "offical" or not |
| #18HellcowAug 30, 2008 3:09:24 | i think it was Lee Moyer???, i recall they were auctioned off on ebay, last year maybe? Lee Moyer is the artist who's designed all of the non-aberrant marks. He designed the Mark of Death for the covers of the novel series. As the novels technically aren't canon and AFAIK the art hasn't appeared in any other book, I uppose it's not 100% official - but it's about as close as you can get. And yes, thanks to this thread I was planning to ping you to see if it was finished yet! I suppose I should just post the partial version. |
| #19thegreatpookAug 30, 2008 15:13:36 | So Dragonmarks seem like the obvious choice for an Eberron inspired tattoo, but I've never been a big fan of tribal tattoos. Are there any other good tattoo ideas relating to Eberron? Who has a Wayne Reynolds piece on them? ![]() |
| #20minoritarianAug 30, 2008 15:46:59 | What about the octogram of the host or hexagram of the dark six? |
| #21mystrichAug 30, 2008 22:10:17 | What about the octogram of the host or hexagram of the dark six? Or any of the other religious symbols really. Personally, I love the Undying Court's Death Mask. There's also the setting name itself, which not only says Eberron but represents the 3 Dragons (The word Eberron, representing the dragon Eberron, is enclosed by a box, represent Syberis. Inside of Eberron is a third dragon, Khyber.). |

Yeah, there was a thread by Save VS DM (who bought them off Lee) where he uploaded scans of the Mark of Death from Least to Siberys. Awesome, awesome stuff. |
| #23grug_the_justAug 31, 2008 20:55:51 | Who has a Wayne Reynolds piece on them? Believe me I've thought about it, the only problem is that it would cost at heck of a lot more to get tattooed that it would to get the actual painting. Secondly, the most awe inspiring image of his, in my opinion has got to be... |
| #24mystrichAug 31, 2008 21:02:59 | Believe me I've thought about it, the only problem is that it would cost at heck of a lot more to get tattooed that it would to get the actual painting. Are you sure about this? Art is usually extremely expensive. I've never gotten a tattoo, but I wouldn't expect them to cost much more than 100 or 200 for extremly detailed tattoos. Whereas I've seen artists sell a solid black painting (it was like 5x5 inches at most, no different in color or shade) in the hundreds of dollars. And well done fantasy pictures usually cost A LOT more. --- EDIT: Google proves me very possibly wrong. |
| #25minoritarianSep 04, 2008 8:39:59 | A large detailed tattoo would easily set you back £500, I have small simple tats and none of them have cost me less than £50 ($100) |
| #26GiloSep 04, 2008 9:02:35 | Maybe we should suggest to WotC to add random Dragonmark fake-tattoo sheet with the 4e ECS as part of the promotional marketing of the product :D |
| #27minoritarianSep 04, 2008 10:37:40 | Brilliant idea! It'd be like McSweeney's promotion. |

Depending on the size of the tattoo it would have been more expensive than a painting. I'd say if the tattoo would be more than 6" by 9" it would be more expensive than a Wayne Reyolds original. Also, I had to ask him what was on that "Cleric's" arm in the Sharn: City of Towers cover. Maybe we should suggest to WotC to add random Dragonmark fake-tattoo sheet with the 4e ECS as part of the promotional marketing of the product :D Brilliant, indeed. |

| #30TalaeSep 04, 2008 17:37:52 | They actually had these as a promotional item at GenCon the year Eberron was first released. Those should be available on a massive scale...I would totally buy some when at my local game store. |
