#1 belisarius19 Aug 25, 2011 14:12:35	Do we have any idea if we'll get some Eberron specific themes in the future? We finally have some FR themes with the Neverwinter book and we've had Dark Sun themes since Dark Sun came out. How about Eberron? I think it would be really awesome to have a Sharn or Stormreach book along the same lines as the Neverwinter book, and I can think of a lot of great theme concepts that would really help give characters an Eberron specific feel. I guess I'm curious what themes people would like to see if they did such a book, and where would you want a campaign book set? Sharn and Stormreach are obvious choices, but maybe you have something else in mind? Also, has anyone houseruled Eberron themes for your campaign, and if so what themes did you make up?
#2 nthdegree256 Aug 25, 2011 23:11:29	At the "New Products" seminar at GenCon a couple weeks ago, they said that they're talking to Keith about maybe getting an Eberron themes article. I'd love to see something like that; just to throw some ideas for what I would look for out there:  * Inquisitive  * War Veteran (maybe one theme, but some of its features come in 5 variants, one for each of the Five Nations)  * House Scion (comes with a d'___ title, doesn't require a mark)  * Lhazaar Pirate I haven't had a chance to look through existing themes yet, but I need to do so soon; I'll be starting an Eberron campaign soon and want to see if there are any worth recommending to my players.
#3 AvonRekaes Aug 25, 2011 23:28:42	I think Thunder Guide would make a good theme as well, taken from the 3.5 Prestige Class. The major Theme I want to see is Inquisitive. The inquisitive PC is just such a unqiue hallmark of the setting, I think, it needs to be given it's due. I'd like to see House Scion theme as well. Honestly, I'd like to see all 12 marks given their own themes to expand upon their powers, but that's another entire thread. But I do like the idea of a mundame "Noble" theme that ties into the Houses, like expanding the Favored in the House feat. Could also expand to benefits outside of your specific house, as the Houses do try to work together sometimes. Widening the approach, I could see one or two of the Druidic Sects getting their own theme, like how Elemental Priests got their own Dark Sun theme. The Druids in Eberron have always been more flavorful and thematic than any other generic druid circle I've seen in previous core settings or FR. (Not trying to bash, that's just my opinion). Also given the existance of the old Eldeen Ranger prestige class, I think it would be interesting to let the druids have a wider range of character types, while still having a thematic (no pun intended) tie. For instance, you could have an Ashbound theme with maybe bonuses to Will and/or defensive powers vs. area or blast powers. Then you can be a barbarian, ranger, druid, or even, say, fighter or rogue, that's obstensibly part of the Ashbound druidic sect.
#4 belisarius19 Aug 26, 2011 0:05:15	I definitely agree about the inquisitive. I hadn't thought about the druidic sects, but that's a really good idea as well. This might be able to be roled into the inquisitive concept, but I'd be interested in a theme to represent agents of the intelligence agencies like the Dark Lanterns and the Royal Eyes as well. I'd also like to see a Magewright theme. I honestly don't know how it would work, but it's a uniquely Eberron concept and I'd like to see it executed outside the Artificer class.
#5 nerraDetroK Aug 26, 2011 8:54:29	In my Eberron game, we're adapting the current themes to the characters as best we can. Alchemist theme is sort of like Magewright, but not really. One player is closely tied to House Medani and took Noble for his theme.  Seer would work well there too.  Our Sentinel Marked player has the Guardian theme.  I could see House Jorasco or Ghallanda taking the Hospitaler theme. Tharashk works for Explorer too. Not exactly Eberron themes, but they work for now. Inquisitive would be an awesome Theme to see.  Ashbound is great too, but I don't see how Lhazaar Pirate is necessary.  What woudl its defining characterisitics be?    Mournland Survivor could be good- giving bonuses to Will or saves agaisnt aberrant creatures.  A boost to endurance and saves vs Fear?  As for new books, I'd love to see a decent sized (128 pg) book on some of the major cities.  Say 5 major cities getting 20 pages each, with the remaining pages for new feats or items.  I know there's a lot of old 3.5 books on Eberron, so maybe I should track down more of them.

That's a good one!  I could see "Kalashtar Adoptee" or "Adaran Adept" as Eberron's psionic theme, if you didn't want to re-fluff the Dark Sun ones. Psionics has been an important part of the setting since square-one, so I think the selection of Eberron Themes should include at least one that's setting-specific. (Hell, I could see Soulknife done as a Theme.)
#7 Osgood Aug 29, 2011 7:41:25	I really hope we get themes for Eberron soon, if ever a setting needed them its Eberron.  It, like Dark Sun, is so different from vanilla D&D that themes would really help define the setting.  I think there have been some good suggestions here, hopefully we'll get a series of articles where we see more than a couple of themes.  The ones I feel are key (in order) are: Inquisitive Dragonmarked Scion (preferably with a means of making the marks feel closer to they did in 3.5) Mournland Survivor War Veteran (I like the idea of having different options based on nation) Druidic Disciple (with variations for the major sects) Thunder Guide Student of Prophecy A psionic theme tied to Sarlona/the Dreaming Dark Perhaps the article could offer suggestions for existing themes that would be appropriate, for example Wizard's Apprentice as a Magewright or Guttersnipes from Sharn. I don't think that it would happen, but I would love to see another Eberron book, even if it was a 4E version of something that came before... Sharn or Xen'drik/Stormreach seem the most likely candidates.
#8 bofdm Aug 29, 2011 9:44:53	Forgive someone somewhat more unfamiliar with 4e terms for poking his head into this thread, but I was wondering what exactly does "Theme" in this case refer too? I've been hoping for more Eberron *books* to come out for some time now to no avail, did they hint at these from the panel at Gencon?
#9 CorrinAvatan Aug 29, 2011 9:54:09	Themes were introduced in Dark Sun as a way of giving flavor to your character mechanically.  For example, you might take the "Bodyguard" theme, and get a power as part of that theme, and the ability to swap powers at higher levels for powers within that bodyguard theme, like taking a hit for an ally or whatever.

#12 Vestras Sep 28, 2011 12:46:16	Great list of repurposing NthDegree! And yea, Harper's would be King's Citadel agents most likely. My hopes for the article: Self-Forged flavored theme (Get a replacement limb of choice, maybe replace others as you level) Tinkerer Theme - Like animal master but more arcane in style, clock work pets and ritual/alchemical assitants Legal Citizen - Only for Monster Races, Grants a Flex stat and passive bonuses to diplomacy to be allowed into towns. Later levels offer more negotiating capability. Pilot/Airship Crew Theme - L5 gives Bluff/Arcana buffs, L10 gives an equivalent to the Mark of Passage, and level 1 would have to be some fun little encounter power to make you fly and RBA perhaps.  Rail Rider Theme - lot of lighting typed powers with movement riders. Too much time ont he rails does that to a man.

There is one Eberron-specific theme in the pipeline that I know of (as I was lucky enough to write it). I'm not sure when they'll air it, but I'm hoping it'll be in the next month or so.    Just sayin', there may not be as much Eberron content flooding out the gates as we'd want, but it's still coming! That said, there are many existing themes already out there that can work nicely for Eberron even as they are. It's up to players and DMs alike to just recast their flavor.
