| #1DoctorNecroticApr 12, 2014 13:28:24 | Now, this thread has probably existed in the past. If it has, I probably didn't see too much useful info from it... No matter, I'm wondering if anyone has converted Eberron's campaign specific content to AD&D in one way or another. I really enjoy 3rd and 4th ed, but I've really been itching to jump back into 2e AD&D with some friends that got me into the game to begin with! While 2e has a massive library of settings, I've had a soft spot for Eberron! Sure, there's a lot of mechanics based on 3e which wouldn't directly transfer over. At least, there are easy ways to kitbash things to fit! I mean, Red Steel's Curse could be a pretty good substitute for Dragonmarks, by all means!
But, this begs the question on how to make an Artificer? Sure, there are kits available, but these don't really capture the flavour of the Eberron Campaign artificer! Plus, how would Eberron's races look in terms of AD&D Races? Would a Warforged have unlimited levels in Artificer? Would shifters have unlimited ranger or druid?
Any ideas are welcome. |

Bard might work, too. After that its spell selection, limiting cleric spells to the more leadery, less miraculous ones, and poaching Wizard spells that relate to creating magic items, even temporarily.
A lot of the 3e spells that were used for dragonmarks also existed in 1e/2e, I would think that mechanic would be easy to convert.
In the 30ish years I played 1e/2e I never used level limits, or played with anyone who did (elf wizards can't make permanent magic items, really?), so I don't know what to tell you there. |
| #3DoctorNecroticApr 13, 2014 16:23:59 | I never go RAW with AD&D either, but have it for the folks who do... That said, I've considered mashing the Artificer Kit of Spells & Magic and the Machine-Mage kit from the "Mage vs Machine" Dragon Magazine article together and maybe applying it to a bard... I dunno.
Now, this leaves the wondrous vehicles like the Lightning Rail and the Airship to contend with...
Plus, how would one handle the races anyway? I guess you can borrow from a monster they're inspired by, heavily water down the stats, and go with that? |
| #4BeoricApr 15, 2014 18:11:22 | There is so little that differentiates the 2e races from each other, particularly in terms of combat mechanics, that I would just build them from scratch. Keeping in mind that the most powerful race mechanics in terms of combat are elves' +1 to hit with longswords and longbows, and some saving throw bonuses for dwarves and gnomes. Ability score adjustments are never by more than one point, and always balance out (a race with +1 in one ability always has -1 in another). Most of the real difference is fluff.
So, for example, Kalashtar: Languages are common and quori, speed 12", +1 per 3 1/2 points of Wisdom to saves against mind affecting spells. Maybe give them a refluffed sending 1/day to replacate Mindlink. I can't remember how psionics orks in 2e, so no help there. Does 2e have a monk class?
Shifter: Language is common; speed 12", +1 dex, -1 cha, infravision, can multiclass fighter/thief, fighter/druid or ranger/cleric (if you want to limit yourself to the standard types of multiclasses). In lieu of shifting a number of times a day, maybe give a straight up choice of +1 to hit with melee attacks or +1 AC.
Warforged: Language is common, speed 12", +1 con, -1 cha, +1 AC. Multiclass fighter/anything legal. If you use the "Hovering on death's door" option, maybe they don't lose 1 point per round after they are brought to 0 hp. |

For vehicles, I'll probably pillage Gamma World 4th Edition (1992's edition, not D&D 4th Edition) for ideas (Treasures of the Ancients) and mish-mosh junk from said vehicles to make my Eberron crafts. It's been so long since I've tried to homebrew stuff up for AD&D, so you've been quite the help!
As for Psionics, they were updated in The Psionics Handbook (From the Complete Handbook line.) I haven't used it myself, so... I don't know.
As for the Monk? Scarlet Brotherhood and Complete Priest have monk classes to choose from. |

| #7DoctorNecroticApr 19, 2014 8:40:49 | Fair enough. I have Barrier Peaks, Tales from the Comet, Spelljammer, and other "Science Fantasy" D&D books lying around somewhere. |
