| #1swalMar 16, 2010 10:58:33 | Hello there! I need your help again on this: are there any rules about binding elementals to airship for the 4th edition? Where can I find any rules about binding elementals in D&D4? Thanks for your time! ![]() |
| #2Kensan_OniMar 16, 2010 12:19:51 | Hello there! To the best of my knowledge, there are not any rules for such at this time. However, the ritual for creating an Airship probably will cost as much as buying an Airship anyway (Adventures Vault, 85,000 gp). I don't know if that helps, but there you go! |
| #3superdeadsmurfMar 16, 2010 14:01:54 | Hello there! The airship in AV isn't an elemental airship, it's a little blimp. Elemental airships cost a LOT more than 850 pp. an Elemental Airship is more the size of a Greatship, and I'd venture a cost of around half a million gold or so. The effects of out of control etc would work pretty much like the AV airship, but piloting would require a Mark of Storm or a diplomacy thing with the elemental. The actual process of binding an elemental isn't really meant to be directly done by players, but I would likely run it as a skill challenge built into a ritual process. |
| #4swalMar 16, 2010 14:47:07 | Thanks for the clarification! My concern is : I want to run Voyage of the Golden Dragon and there is a banishment bomb in the history. Someone wants to destroy elementals aboard the airship and the bad guy want to use a banishment-3rd-edition bomb to do so. Then, according to you how can I convert this to the 4th edition? I know that there are some bombs descriptions in the Eberron Player's Guide, in some Dragon Magazines but how to make a bomb with some arcane power like banishment? ![]() |

Well, I suppose it depends on your Airship, I suppose. My general inclination is that the Greatship sized Airships are a rarer, flashier thing, and that the Airship size (About a good size to haul a descent amount of cargo, or a squad of soldiers, not large enough for a huge amount of freight) is the more common to see in the skies then the Skybusters shown. I actually agree that maybe a skill challenge works here. I mean, there was a point, I can't remember where I read it, where there was a small cluster in Zilargo where elementals wandered about town free, waiting for the contracts to bind them to airships and lightning rails. So it probably works a lot more like a negotiation then a ritual, anyway. |

Well, it depends on who is using it? The villians? Then no stats are needed for it (except maybe the skill challenge to diffuse it), it just does what it is supposed to do. Not everything needs stats. If the players are using it against someone else, it might need stats, just describe what it does, use page 42 of your DMG liberally for DCs and damage expressions as needed, but still it probably doesn't need full stats. |
