My PC will soon retake their village in Droam. I thought that this could serve as an example for others Brelish who lost their land during the Droam invasion and are more or less angry about the fact that the governement didn't help them to reclaim theirs lands and is content with the status quo.
I planned for some ex-colonist in Breland to start a nation-wide movement taking the PCs as involuntary heros and figure head of the movement to put pressure on Boranel and the parliament.
My question, is how numerous were those settler beforce the invasion?
Enough to have a spontaneous and incontrollable crusade that start in Breland?
Enough, son that they represent a significant threat that Boranel add to crush with his army, but not enough to beat the Brelish army?
Enough, so that Boranel just don't care and let them pass the frontier to their death while threathening to use the army against them to show to Droam that he didn't want to start a war?
And by the way, if you have already have play a game with this scenario of colonising Droam, I would be interest to heard about your story so that I could populate my own Droam with others adventurous colonist and put my players in the middle of a borders chaos if they are only half-as-stubborn as Israelian colonist :evillaugh
You have to make the conquest worth the cost, and risk, to Bronnel and the Parliament, or to another group that can make the higher ups care (like Cannith South). Perhaps the hag Sisters discovered an ancient relic that spews forth wristbands which make the wearer more powerful). That would definitely scare Parliament and intrigue Cannith. Maybe a massive load of Dragonshards were discovered in eastern Droam. Many would be adventurers would jump at the chance of seizing them, heck you know House Tharashk would want a cut (which would make for an interesting decision for Tharashk - go for the quick buck or keep yourself established in Droam).
The point is that you would need more of a reason than 'it was our land' to mobilize the nation.

Well, my point isn't really to do a full scale war between Breland and Droam, but have enough chaos on the borders that others groups could exploit it at their end to provoke a war or simply to try to exploit the situation to strenghten their political position.
Im seing in a first time settlers that are rub from their land to arm themselve and try to defy the king by crossing the border.
Then Im thinking about vague declaration of the silver flames and sovereign as they are please that some people actually take the job to spread civilisation (read: slaughtering dangerous monsters)
Then it s point thing would go wrong. Boranel want to preserve peace with his neighbors, a war with Droam isn't wish and what's good for Droam could rapidly become good for Darguun too and he risk to be bog down in a two front war when at the same time he fear that if he die (in battle or simply from the strain of the campaign because of his age), the leadership of Breland would crumble.
But then, he is not alone to see it. The sword of liberty, that are in exil in Droam, would perhaps try to help a little the situation by paying monterous mercenarie to kill in the most gruesome way as to made example.
Public opinion, while not liking those arm group, will sympathize with those people spoil of their land and those martyr who are brutally sleughter. If the martyrs bring enough sympathy in the population, that could paralyse the parliament who would side with the crusade or at least try to ensure that it last long enough until that public opinion change. Which would put the parliament against the Crown. Then, it remains to see on which side the prime minister will isde, a catastroph or an opportunity for him?
And then there is house Tharask and Deneith. Tharask would want to protect their market from their rival who seek to increase their share.
And finally, which side the new people heroes will take? Will they stand to tgheir land at any cost and try to free the old Brelish Droam? Or will they accept the offer of the King to get first grade land in the royal domain if they accept to come back and denounce the newly form movement?
