Sounds pretty cool!
I'm thinking that somehow the Flayers are Daelkyr cronies that fled to the moon to escape meddling Gatekeepers.
I'm thinking that somehow the Flayers will use the moon to free a Daelkyr.
I really want the players to blow up the moon - similar to what Daine & co did in one of Keith's novels.
Seems like there are some good threads there, but I can't bring them together - anyone have any ideas to add?

1) Which moon? Eberron has 12 of them left.
2) So you want to destroy a Moon? Doable. But it wasn't Daine &co who did it the last time, it was the giants, which is why Crya (the 13th Moon is gone). And their attempt to bring the same power to bear caused a blitz-attack from Argonessen. Try this only if you think Khorvaire is ready for a coordinated annihilation strike from Argonessen. Also, the destruction of Crya shattered Xen'drik to the point where the elven slaves could rebel: many of the curses of the shattered lands are safeguards put up by the dragons to prevent this from happening ever again; many others are the direct result of the use of the Moonbreaker artifact (which the PCs would likely have to retrieve/reconstruct/reinvent).
3) What are the consequences? The last time a moon was destroyed, a plane was thrown off orbit. If you're suspicious, it led to the loss of one of the Marks (though Crya was destroyed long before the Mark of Death manifested, let alone was destroyed). Also, going by the Moons of Eberron article, the moons influence people psychologically (destroy Eyre, and you have a lot fewer creative people around), if the druidic superstitions are true. As for more physical consequences: the loss of a moon would influence things like tides, rotation speed of the planet, storms (if Zarantyr is involved), etc. |

| #5PaladinNicolasFeb 10, 2014 2:21:03 | This is an interesting topic, and here are some ideas that could work: An interesting twist could be to link the destruction of the moon aimed at stopping the mindflayers with the prophecy, concerning a verse about the obliteration of a cultivated and advanced society in the face of Eberron with the capacity to destroy the moon and bring about the ruin of Argonnessen. Maybe the dragons thought centuries ago that such a society was the giant one from Xen'drik... when it fact it was Cyre, whose 'scientists' -artificers mainly- discovered how to use weapons of Xen'drik in a successful way. Realizing this too late, the dragons brought about the mourning... but the problem is that while officially not recognized as a nation in the treaty of Thronehold, Cyre lives on, not only in New Cyre with prince Oargev but in the hearts of Cyrans... and one with the knowledge to destroy a moon. When the PCs manage to destroy it, the cosmic alteration causes Argonnessen to be sunk and dragons to die in large numbers. Thus, the weapons giants devised, and two civilizations affected by it, ended up bringing about the ruin of the dragons who sought to ruin them (as in Greek tragedies where fate is not escaped). Curiously, the PCs would have defeated the daelkyr plan, but without the dragons, the lords of dust manage to release many of the numbers, and the PCs are called in. This could bring about not a new Galifar but an alliance of the five nations, since the Church of the Silver Flame will be called upon to help even by Karrnath... but some of the rulers who are truly clones of the mindflayers will intend to prevent this alliance... |
