It really depends on whether or not you want a great adventure, a great meta-plot, or a tour of Eberron. Each series provides something different.

Dec 19, 2008 18:22:56 you got to tell use what you've read, it seems like alot. right now we'd be flailin' around in the dark, as much as i love flailin' it wastes time. oh and i love the Lost Mark series, and ummm the Thorn of Breland book. read it?

Dec 20, 2008 19:42:17 I know its not a continuous series, but the Inquisitives line of novels was awesome in my opinion. Next, probably Heirs of Ash.

Also read Tales of the Last War and liked it a little better.

Dec 23, 2008 14:51:35 I agree with the above posters. I will also add that if you read and enjoyed R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt saga, then consider Don Bassingthwaite's Th Dragon Below series. Geth is a similar character to drizzt; he is an outcast with good in his heart and he is highly skilled in his craft -- heroic vanquishing of foes.

His story continues so far in Don Bassingthwaite's new Trilogy the Legacy of Dhakaan.

This was also my first venture into eberron. I have been an avid fan ever since.

Dec 27, 2008 11:40:01 Don Bassingthwaite's "The Dragon Below" Series, with Geth, Singe, Dandra and the gang is my favorite. Every member of their adventuring party is great, in my opinion. I also enjoyed the first novel in the new "Legacy of Dhakaan" series. As a fan who's read every one of each character's novels, I really don't think Geth and Drizzt are that similar at all; but that's just my opinion.

I also really enjoyed "The Dreaming Dark" series by Keith Baker.

Tim Waggoner's "Blade of the Flame" trilogy is pretty solid. The main character Diran Bastiaan seems poised to establish a pretty big fanbase. I prefer Geth and his friends, but Diran is a good character.

I've enjoyed almost all of the Eberron novels, honestly, with the exception of a few. I thought "The Lost Mark" series was pretty wretched. It wasn't badly written, per se, I just didn't like the concept. Really, I didn't like much about it at all. It seemed written by someone with a shaky grasp on the setting. It seemed to try to be a little to grand in scope, I think. That's just my opinion, though, and obviously others will feel the exact opposite.

I didn't care for "The Orb of Xoriat" stand-alone (Book 2 of the Wartorn Series), either. I really wanted to like the main character, but found the story pretty boring, overall.

While I like Keith's work a lot and enjoy seeing Eberron through it's creator's eyes, I slightly prefer Bassingthwaite's series because it looks at more exotic parts of Eberron and he's a more experienced and polished author. That said, Keith's newest novel, The Queen of Stone, came out recently, and I thought it showed how he's maturing as a writer himself, so he's certainly not far behind!

Dec 29, 2008 7:20:39 Well I really enjoyed the Dreaming Dark Triology, and I found most of the short stories in Tales of the last war really interesting. But sadly I must admitt that I found the endig of "Thorn of Breeland" to be a bit how shall one put it... Over the top. Its a shame really, because the book up untill then was really a great read.

Dec 30, 2008 19:45:47 Just an update to my earlier post. I just finished queen of stone. For a spy type novel, its plot is... rather obvious as it progresses. I still like it, minus one bit I won't spoil for others.

Jan 04, 2009 10:21:28 I'm not a huge Eberron fan, but I LOVED The Dragon Below Trilogy, and I'm going to start Don's next trilogy after I finish The Pirate King (almost finished now).

I would say that you should avoid the Mark of Death trilogy (I hated it....couldn't even finish the last novel), and I'm wanting to read Keith Baker's original trilogy (I have the first book, but never got the other 2).

Tales of the Last War is good too.
