Favorite Eberron resource?

Jun 10, 2010 19:38:51 If you were getting somebody hooked on Eberron who was largely unfamiliar with the setting, what is the one thing you'd start with, that you think would get them most excited?

And then, if they're fascinated and determined to run the setting & they've bought the campaign setting sourcebook and are looking for more, what is your single most favorite Eberron resource?

note: these are intended to be edition-neutral questions, but if it's important, assume they've bought the 4th edition campaign setting book.

Sharn is an awesome place to fully encompass the "fantasy urban" attitude of Eberron. The Sharn: City of Towers sourcebook goes into such great detail, you can really tell what makes the city alive and how its citizens would react.

I would also then purchase the novel The Night of Long Shadows, book 2 of The Inquisitives series (the books aren't really connected so you're not missing anything by skipping book 1). This book is a murder mystery set in Sharn and captures a lot of what makes low-level adventuring in Eberron great.

Seconded. I've read about 7 Eberron novels so far and that one is easily my favorite novel so far. Great characters, great story-telling, and it doesn't require prior knowledge in the setting to get into it.

It was an incredibly fun read in my opinion.

Jun 11, 2010 6:45:09 Well the book that got me hooked on Eberron was "An Adventurers Guide to Eberron"

Its just fluff and pictures but it's a very good primer into the world. It also manages to get across the unique flavour of the setting which was something that the previous Eberron books didn't do for me personally.

Jun 12, 2010 15:59:36 Bookwise, I loved the 3.5 Player's Guide to Eberron. It was like a whole book of nothing but sidebars and hooks. (Er, I DM, so for me that's a good thing.)

But a lot of my favorite stuff appeared in the Dragonshard articles, which you can still find right here:

Novels are also a great source of inspiration, I'm currently reading "Storm Dragon"
