| #1vigilant1Apr 10, 2009 23:56:55 | Though I enjoyed the soundtrack that came with Sharn City of Towers, I wish to expand the selection of songs to use in Eberron. I felt that a good source of background music would be movie and serial soundtracks. Think the various Errol Flynn films, and The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, and so on. Even with narrowing it down to soundtracks for films from the 50s and earlier, that is still a very long list of songs and/or soundtracks. Would any of you be able to point out to a film score that you feel would be appropriate for adding ambiance to Eberron? I apologize in advance if my wording comes off as confusing. |

| #3AmarilApr 11, 2009 8:46:10 | My top picks are the following:
As tempting as it might be, stay away from soundtracks such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and other easily recognizable scores. They're fun to listen to, but they distract the players by invoking images of those movies, not of the game you're playing. |
| #4nthdegree256Apr 11, 2009 12:32:03 | I have to admit, the soundtrack to Pirates of the Caribbean gets me in the Eberron mood. It's action-packed and swashbuckling - good for adventures out in the Lhazaar Principalities, Q'barra, or Stormreach, although maybe not so much with the ambience. |
| #5m4kitsuApr 13, 2009 4:19:46 | In addition to those mentioned, some other good soundtracks worth looking at for Eberron are: The Wind and the Lion (Actually, anything by Jeremy Goldsmith works well) Willow (James Horner, same as above) The various Battlestar Galactica soundtracks (Richard Gibbs/Bear McCreary) Serenity (David Newman) Blackhawk Down (Hans Zimmer -Odd, I know, but the combination of western and middle-east influences in the sound of the music feels very Eberron-appropriate, and Barra Barra in particular is great combat music) Actually, any of the big-name score composers out there can work well, depending on the style you're going for. In addition, I throw in other types of music as well. Dramatic, sweeping scores are sometimes the order of the day, but Eberron has enough punk in it to warrant dips into other genres. Some good ones I've found are: Dragonforce (or anything similar) Muse (Knights of Cydonia in particular is one part lawless western, one part cyberpunk, and two parts awesome) Metallica (anyone familiar with S&M knows why. For those of you who aren't, let me Google that for you...) VNV Nation (the Empires album is wonderful music to feed your inner megalomaniac) It's less about the type of music and more about the feel I want my players to have, and I even managed to base an entire campaign around Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys music. |
| #6vigilant1Apr 13, 2009 15:20:18 | So far I am enjoying the suggestions you are giving. I was also thinking of implementing works by some of the 18th, 19th and early 20th century composers. This is mostly because many parallels can be made between the world of Eberron, and the various social, political, and technological changes, among other things, that occurred during these time periods. |

| #8That_Blasted_SomoflangeApr 15, 2009 18:53:31 | Abney Park They have a steampunk themed show, and while I know that Eberron is NOT steampunk - it does a have a 'punk' feel.. Not quite, magepunk, definitely not steampunk, more like D&Dpunk. It's D&D but feels different. The tune, Airship Pirate just gets me thinking about Eberron every time, along with The Secret Life of Dr. Calgori makes me think of an artificer. Both songs are from their latest album, Lost Horizons. Works really well for me. For me, any song I like, that has depth in the lyrics can inspire me. I once ran a Star Wars campaign that had a mission inspired by Cradle of Filth's Her Ghost in the Fog. Tyler Bates 300 soundtrack is good. As is the Stuart Chatwood Prince of Persia Sands of Time soundtrack - that one is great for an Valenar themed soundtrack. Finally, the soundtrack for the game The Bard's Tale gives me an Eberron vibe for some reason. Maybe since the main character, the Bard, is such an arsehole. |
| #9joni-sanApr 15, 2009 19:55:48 | The Full Metal Alchemist soundtrack might be worth getting. The music from Arcanum is a must get. I hear the soundtrack ('tho not the movie) for The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen is good. -Joni |
| #10thaliostApr 15, 2009 20:32:34 | I recommend OST of BACCANO! the anime. Jazz music with a 1930s flavor. The anime actually happened on a lightning rail! :D |
| #11CentauriApr 19, 2009 5:25:47 | I saw Willow mentioned above, so I'll second that and recommend other James Horner soundtracks, such as The Rocketeer (mentioned in Eberron Campaign Setting as a pulp influence, I believe) and Sneakers. I also find that some of the music on the Halo Soundtracks ("Earth City" on Halo 2, Vol 2, for instance) get me thinking about Eberron. |
| #12deadlogicApr 22, 2009 0:35:01 | Try using music by Amon Tobin you'll be glad you listened to the stuff even if you don't use it |
| #13LordDreadmanApr 30, 2009 1:57:50 | I play music from the Indiana Jones films a lot, since it incapsulates the swashbuckling adventure I envision for Eberron. Of course, there are a billion different moods in Eberron, but these particular scores show up most often on my iPod for Eberron. Yours, Lord Dreadman |
| #14vigilant1May 03, 2009 17:10:06 | I found some other good soundtracks for Eberron, thanks to music we listened to in one of my classes. They are the soundtracks for the films Captain Blood, The Sea Hawk, and Alexander Nevsky. The Battle on the Ice from Alexander Nevsky seemed rather fitting for Karrnath, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXr0m7SaGvs. |
