So my campaign has been toying around with time travel. The group initially was sent into a dystopian future where the Dreaming Dark had taken over Khorvaire. They attempted to return to the present to prevent this future, but they were each instead sent to a different time in the distant past. One of my players is a Karrnathi soldier that has found himself in ancient Karrnath, near the end of Karrn's reign. I'm looking for any sources that may give details about this time period or about Karrn himself.

Now, since I don't expect there to be a whole lot that already covers this, I'm also looking to perhaps spark some discussion of Karrn and the time. How do people perceive him? Cruel and greedy? Honorable but narrow-minded? And what of the era? Would we say the humans were in their Iron Age? Early Middle Ages?

There is a pretty nice summary on p. 71 of the Grand History of Eberron.  He is, in fact, described as "cruel and covetous".  He took the title "warlord" rather than king, and apparently the fallout resulted in the rise of national identities, which implies before that it was a bunch of petty fiefdoms without national identities.  So politically speaking it may have been like the early Middle Ages.  It could have been quite a bit like Lhazaar is now.

There are some very general descriptions here and there, but I can't remember where.  I think some of them are summarized in discussions on Hellcow's website regarding humand population in Cyre.  If you do the work of hunting it all down, about all you will get is the names of some predecessor kingdoms, and some cultural differences between humans in the area of Valenar and humans in other areas of Khorvaire.

I stumbled across a reference to Karrn in the "Dolurrh's Dawn" article in Dragon 365.  He is desribed as an evil male human warlord (I think that would be a LE or NE marshall or fighter, in 3.5 terms), who is a brilliant tactician, and whose flaws are his cruelty and his ego.
