So I'm about to start a campaign called "The E-Team" which is the "A-Team" set in Eberron, an idea I stole viciously from someone else on the net. I make no apologies! Anyway. The PCs are all veterans of the war, and I'd like them to originally to have been from 2-3 different military branches that all fought on Breland's side of things (although not necessarily in Brelands "army"). I recently realized the the book "Forge of War" might contain such information, and have ordered a copy, but it won't get here before the game starts.

So, anyone out there with this book? If so, care to answer any or all of the following?
- What are some military orders/groups/branches that fought for/with Breland at the end of the Last War? (Eberron equivalents of Marines, Army, Airborne Rangers, Green Berets, etc.)
- Was there an important battle won by Breland towards the end of the war? What was it?
- Is there any elite Breland military groups?
- any generally cool stuff that happened toward the end of the war? (Other than Cyre)

Thanks!

Regular forces include infantry, cavalry, and rangers. Their "special forces" were the Redcloak Battalion and the Breland Dragoons. The Redcloak Battalion were heavy infantry detailed on pg140 of Sharn:City of Towers. The breland Dragoons were mounted infantry supported by an artificer.
There was a Human general named Urik Rowan who although lost most of the battles she was in, became famous for one battle she won. In 987 she and her troops destroyed an eldritch machine that turned all weapons into human bane weapons within one mile of it. She used hit and run tactics, fighting ogres, gnolls and the six hill giants that carried the machine. She saves many fleeing refugees, though she lost most of her troops.

Look to World War 2 fact and fiction for inspiration if you need it. Band of Brothers is a great place to look. Combine that with Five Nations and you've got a winning combination.

For example, the King's Swords are the "Green Beret" types of Breland. Or the King's Wands, their arcane equivalent. Think about one of your PCs as an exasperated veteran of the King's Shields (Brelish Secret Service) who chased around Boranel in his youth to "protect" the prince. Maybe one failed to protect Boranel's wife from assassins and his mission is to find the real killer. Of course everyone loves the Dark Lanterns.

The Death Pact idea is another good one. During the War, the E-Team buried a cache of Cyran art in the Mournland (now priceless). A ritual sealed the cache to the last member of the unit left alive.

Personally I kinda like the Time Travel schtick. Mostly because it lets your team fight in the war and thats awesome. Especially if Karrnath opens up with Necro-ammo that reanimates comrades. Maybe that happened and you need to go back to make sure your old friends are really dead.

So yeah. Check out the history, insert Breland where applicable. Personally I like the idea that Boranel had polio and then got some fancy new warforged legs and started stomping hobgoblins.

Bear Cavalry... if you've ever wondered how Breland stood against the Droaam's legions of gnolls, ogre, trolls and harpies.

While not a seperate division of Breland's armed forces, there could also be a PC that was stationed on the Argonth, the floating citidal that now patrols Breland's borders.
