Forging a Dragonmark ?

Here's the thing: your party has two half-elves, one dragonmarked and the other is not, and they want an airship. The problem is that the dragonmarked half-elf is an House Lyrandar Renegade, self-explainatory he cannot borrow, lend or buy an airship nor any other elemental vehicle, yet he can pilot them all. Suddenly, your rogue in your party has an idea: to forge a dragonmark on the other half-elf in order to "fool" the house.

Forgery is a no-brainer, but what would be the DCs to scribe the different dragonmarks ?

There's a spell in one of the books that will change a dragonmark to look like another dragonmark...

I would say that, given the complexity of the marks, countered by the Fixed nature of the true marks, it should be fairly standard.

I'd make forging a least mark a DC 15, Lesser 20, Greater 25, Siberys 30.

Also, you'll need to toss Nystul's Magical Aura on it, to create the magic aura of a dragonmark. Otherwise, people might notice the deception.

Also, you may need to disguise the renegade, because the fake isn't going to be able to fly the ship away once they get issued one, so the REAL Lyrandar will have to fly it, but must do so in a manner that doesn't arouse suspicioun.

Or, assuming you have magic, most illusion spells would work as long as you don't think you'll be put under heavy scrutiny (you probably wouldn't just buying an airship). Although, I believe you can buy an airship even if you aren't marked.

I was under the impression that it was the Gnomes of Zilargo who crafted the airships not the house itself, and that it was an incredibly long waiting list to get your hands on one.

You don't even have to be an dragonmarked heir in 3rd to get it to move, you just have to be able to command elementals on a regular basis...

To answer you first question however, why exactly would you need to forge a dragonmark. I mean to prove you are of a particular house I couldn't imagine proof of identity being..."Hey, take off your shirt. I need you to prove you're House Lyrandar."

If nothing else, just forging identification should be good enough.

I kind of assumed, from the setup he gave, that they were trying to get the house to lend them, as members of the house, use of an airship "temporarily" for some important mission.

So, the point of forging the mark is to trick the house into letting the exscoriate grab a ship.

Check out the Dragonmarked suppliment. I know it has the spell to change one mark to another, (illusion), and if there is an official rule for forging a mark, I bet it would be in there.

Also note, to look right, the fake mark is basically going to have to be a tattoo, not just painted on.

So, the gnomes bind the elementals to the cores that power the ships. Most of the rest of the ship construction is generally done on contract by house Cannith. But sometimes the houses make there own.
And yes, elemental vessels are supposed to be very expensive, mainly because they require several very large Kyber Shards to make.
