The possibility that Merrix might be improving the Warforged and working on trying to produce Warforged Replicants is probably not an impossibly. Lei is, for all purposes, a Replicant. A replicant is a bioengineered or biorobotic being created in the film Blade Runner (1982). The Nexus series—genetically designed by the Tyrell Corporation—are virtually identical to an adult human, but have superior strength, agility, and variable intelligence depending on the model. Because of their physical similarity to humans, a replicant must be detected by its lack of emotional responses and empathy to questions posed in a Voight-Kampff test. A derogatory term for a replicant is "skin-job." So, what do you think? Do you think that it might be possible that Merrix d'Cannith might be working on a breakthrough to make Warforged replicants? If Merrix got ahold of Lei's parents' research, I think yes, it might be possible for him to create replicants. What do you think?

Most people will probably have read Keith's novels, but a few haven't. *Spoilers for the Dreaming Dark Series and the Son of Khyber* by Keith Baker follow*. Show Now, I cannot comment on Blade Runner. I must admit, to my shame, that I haven't seen the movie. But as I understand what you are trying to say, the answer would be an unmitigated "yes", except that he is not only working on this, he has done it. Lei is not the only one of what you term a "replicant": Merrix has created a son (replacing one who died), who seems to be the same "model" as Lei. He comes with an implanted consciousness of the original, true-born son, if I understand correctly. He appears in Son of Khyber*. In the case of both Lei and Merrix's son, they not only seem to be adults, but have the ability to grow from childhood, and they feature a full range of human expressions. I would say that, based on how Lei is portrayed, she would pass a test checking for empathy and emotional responses. She can be quite emotional, and certainly is capable of empathy; her ties and dedication to her group are genuine, she can get angry, sad, depressed, fall in love, and so forth, all things Pierce, for instance, has more trouble understanding (except for dedication to the group). Also, neither of these "replicants" seem to be aware of their condition. You could even have PCs who are not aware of their real nature. With Lei at least, Cannith seems to have been able to replicate dragonmarks which cannot only imitate the spell-like abilities, but activate dragonmarked items. If they can extend that to non-Cannith marks, Cannith would have an incredible edge... they could outmanoeuver the other Houses. That is something which would be of immense interest to the Twelve, and one that could result in the complete elimination of Cannith South (following the way Thuranni already eliminated the Paelion line), if they ever found out.
