[Game] *Something* in Eberron

Pick some familiar/simple earthly subject you think could be interesting in Eberron, maybe post a link explaining it, and the next poster will flesh out the idea for Eberron and post their own suggestion, forming one long chain of ideas.

For example: Crop Circles

Marks of the prophecy often appear as markings on cave walls, patterns in the clouds or even in the currents of the sea, but just two weeks ago, a large dragonmark-like pattern appeared in the crops of a farmer near the capital city, taking the form of flattened wheat or a sudden change in colour for the plants.
(Metallic blue-purple tomatoes are yet to prove a sucessful seller.)
Lots of people are talking, is it a sign from the prophecy? What does it mean? Why here? Why now? What kind of properties does this prophecy mark have? Is it all a big hoax or a sign of something sinister?

In the Nazca desert in Peru, one can only observe from the sky the mysterious Nazca Lines figures since they are about 8 kilometers long. Here are a few example of such Nazca Lines. Spider Nazca Lines, Monkey Nazca Lines and Condor Nazca Lines

No one knows why such lines have been created. Theories such as water source locater, large scale calendar, divine offer, and many more have been thought out. It remains one of the mysteries of our own world.

In Eberron, we could place Nazca Lines in a few places. Argonnessen could be such a place. Humanoids that live in the continent of Dragons could have built them as a divine offer for the dragon masters of the land, and the dragons could see them from the sky. However, I dont like the idea since it's not player friendly and not mysterious at all.

You could place the Nazca Lines about anywhere. Maybe they seal an ancient demon, maybe they are a map to something, maybe they are only divine offers, maybe they are arcane secrets or the marks of a terrible curse.

Good places to put them other than Xen'drik: Talenta, Mror, Q'barra, Mournland. You could even say that the Monoliths of the Inspired in Sarlona seen from the sky form a strange figure when you 'connect the dots'.

Scytales are too obivious I think. The interesting thing about Scytales is that they are a cryptographic tool. Dragons use Scytales to send messages to their various agents in Khorvaire. Although, the Dreaming Dark agents use Scytales themselves. But since they plan out their plans in detail in Dal'Quor, they use it to transmit their missives to sleeper agents and empty vessels operating in Khorvaire.

The messages sent are Fnorded; but are decoded using the proper Scytale.

We have Nazca lines in Eberron already. A freaking huge Dragonmark actually, illuminated by multiple observatories across the length and breadth of Xen'drik. Check out the Abandoned Orrery on pg 136 of Dragons of Eberron.

I guess great minds think alike ;) .
