"If it's in D&D, it's in Eberron."

As to where you find them... wherever you need them to be found, there they will be.

Fire genasi have some prominence in the Silver Flame faith. They claim to be touched by the flame.

The Genasi are massing in the Kythri plane and are planning to invade Khorvaire on the 1st of Rhaan 1010YK. There aim is to put a stop to the enslavement of Elementals and the practices of Elemental binding (They will probably hit Zilargo first).

It could be a good idea to tie them with Elemental Binding.

In the article, most origin story say that the genasi are humans transformed into genasi. What if in Eberron it went the other way around?

Genasi could have been inhabitants of the Elemental Chaos that migrated to Sarlona near the end of the Age of Demons. The Couatls sacrificing their race could have leave Sarlona with primitive races and the Genasi newcomers could have adapted themselves to the material plane, in such a way that they lost their elemental nature, and became natural creature called Humans. This transformation would have taken place during the Age of Giants.

However, some Genasi didn't want to become Humans. And these Genasi developed Elemental Binding, a magic that made them able to keep their elemental nature by taking on an aspect of one or two particular elemental at the cost of loosing other elemental affinities. In this way, the Genasi race survived. However, few in numbers they blended in Sarlona's Human society. Most of the time, almost unnoticed.

During the Lhazaar Migration towards Khorvaire, Some Genasi could have taken part of the migration and set foot on Khorvaire at the same time the humans did. A group of Genasi could have shared the basics of Elemental Binding with the Gnomes that would become Zilargo. With the basic of Genasi Elemental Binding, they developed their own uses for Elemental Binding which now produces things like Lightning Rails and Lyrandar Airships, weapon and armor, and more recently grafts.

Maybe the Genasi also participated in Sarlonan exploration and discovered Xen'drik at the place that Riedra will make Dar Qat, and shared some knowledge of fire binding with the Sulatar Drows.

"If it's in D&D, it's in Eberron."

It's more like 'If it's in D&D, it could be added to Eberron.' Just a subtile point to make, sorry.

Well, yes, but what's more fun - responding flippantly with a trite quote that was the setting's tag line for a while, or being strictly accurate? :P

Brainstorming some possible ways to use the Genasi in Eberron:

- Humans born in manifest zones during coterminous periods may become Genasi manifesting that particular element. Works primarily for Fernia, Kythri, Risia, and Syrania.
- Genasi could be changed beings from the Mournlands.
- Like the Gith, Genasi fled the destruction of their world at the hands of the Daekyr, and arrived in Eberron.

That is funny, Keith once said somewhere (and I'm sure your could find it on the dragon above website) that a story path he might explore for the origin of Tieflings was that Tieflings were survivors of the Mourning.

On the 1st of Rhaan 1010YK the Genasi are coming - resistance (to fire, frost) is futile. ;)

though I can think of another idea:

The Trust have been doing a good job so far of keeping this issue quiet, but the gnomes path to achieving elemental binding technology was not without its glitches:
The Genasi is the call sign for a group of brave test pilots from the early days of experimental elemental vehicles that have fallen victim to freak accidents revolving elemental use.

Well, just for the sake of accuracy, the actual tag line (from page 5 of the ECS) is "If it exists in D&D, then it has a place in Eberron" - as said, not that it IS there, but that there's a place for it if you want. So it's actually a misquote that was the setting's tag line for a while. ;)

All of these seem valid to me, as is the idea that they're the result of some form of experimentation with elemental binding.

KB: Will Genasi be addressed in any way, to the best of what you know and what you are permitted to say, within the 4ECS or 4EPH?

All I can say is "possibly" - I'm certainly not in a position to discuss details. All I'll say is that if they are present, you should expect them to get even less focus than the new races of the PHB (tiefling, dragonborn, eladrin). Unlike the PHB races, there's no assurance that the typical Eberron player will have access to genasi stats, so we're not going to devote significance space to exploring and expanding their role in the world. But you may certainly see a sidebar or the like on using optional/obscure races.

Sill the other two races from the PHBII be fully supported by the ECS as they will be 'new core' and out before Eberron.

Current logic from what I understand has the PHBII races as Gnomes, Half Orcs, Shifters (or at least a very shifter looking character ), Goliaths (or something that looks exactly like them on the cover) and Deva (the new Aasamir as implied by the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide).

Now I'm not asking for confirmation on that list... I'm just curious if the newcore races from that will be getting the coverage the Gensai might lack.

At this point, I truly can't tell you. Even if such material existed, until the book goes through development there's no telling if it would be in the final cut. The setting is not going to be substantially changed due to the addition of new races, which means that it falls into the category of material that could be there, but could also receive minimal treatment - so it's all going to depend on priorities that arise during the development cycle.

An idea I had for adding genasi was this:

During the height of the giant empire they sent out ships to explore the world and came back with a variety of races (including dwarves and humans). They experimented on these lesser races in order to have them appear more like the giants and created the galeb duhr and azer from the dwarves along with the genasi from the humans. Each now live in small towns in remote locations on Xen'drik.

I could be wrong, but the last I'd heard or read somewhere was that planetouched races like the Tieflings, Aasimar/Deva, and Genasi were all results of one of the appropriate planes being coterminous with Eberron during conception or pregnancy: Kythri/Fernia/Risia for the Genasi; Irian/Syrania/Shavarath for the Deva each having its own effect on the unborn; and Mabar/Shavarath for the Tieflings. Alternatively, Tieflings being the result of influence from the Age of Demons, the Lords of Dust, or just people born under the influence of the Demon Wastes; and Deva as emissaries of The Silver Flame...

Maybe I'm just crazy. . . But it seems like a pretty good explanation all the same

You are right, here's how that concept appeared.

Back in the days when they announced 4E and released Races and Classes, and Worlds and Monsters, the community speculated, and still speculates, on ways to introduce the new races to Eberron. The Tieflings got multiple ideas. Survivors of the Mourning, descendant of fiends, touched by fiends, and finally, Touched by the planes and manifest zones.

However, it was suggested (by the Infernal Bovine himself if I remember correctly) that any plane could create Tieflings, the planes only influenced the behavior of the character. Kythri Tieflings being chaotic, Shavarath being martial, Risia being cold-hearted, Fernia being hot-headed, Xoriat being mad and passioned. Dal Quor being imaginative, etc.

After that, people started to include Aasimar and other planetouched (mephlings/genasi) with this conception. This is when people suggested that any plane could create any planetouched with particular personality, and the other suggestion, that you quoted, that certain planes creates certain types of planetouched.

However, now that the Tielfing and Genasi are published, and Deva coming our way soon, people are still speculating how they could adapt their Tiefling or Genasi to Eberron because we have published fluff on them. Tieflings come from long forgotten pacts with lost fiends of old, while Genasi are either humans touched by the Elemental Chaos or inhabitants of the plane that migrated to the world. This fluff is the story for the Core world, and thus from it will be related some feats and paragon paths. If we want to use these, we better be able to either adapt our fluff to the Core, or twist the Core to our will. Which is what we are both doing in this thread.

Indeed, it was (along with a few ideas). However, that was just me throwing out ideas - and based more on the old idea of the planetouched tiefling. So while I like the idea, don't take it as any sort of solid indication of what's to come in canon.

Keith, Keith, Keith ... when are going to learn? When ever you say anything, it is taken as gospel and as canon immediately. True, it may not be the sanctioned message or the copyrighted published message from Wizards of the Coast. However, when has that ever stopped anyone? The people of the community will always be taking your ideas as the 'TRUTH' until something else is published. Keith, you are a living legend. The community worships you. How does the fame suit you?

I could see them as recipients of Elemental Grafts, but I've been thinking about them as a type of lesser Genie.
