The very idea of astral skiffs invading post-war Eberron...just sends shivers of wicked delight up my spine. I'd love to hear anyone's ideas or a link to any associated threads I might have missed. Alternately, a group of beleagured gatekeepers could have invited the Gith in to assist in putting down a major abberant incursion, the Gith saw lots of lands and resources ripe for conquest and decided to stick around. That said, interplanar warfare would be a rather more complicated affair, and the Githyanki ability to just pop into wherever they plan to attack would be a formidable advantage. Perhaps for the purposes of moving large numbers of troops, the Gith have to focus their attacks on Astral manifest zones, and control of these locations is the all-important focus of the war. Perhaps as part of a major offensive, they could move one of their 'dead god' cities to the Prime plane, either as a local fortress or just dropping it on a major population centre. Or maybe get one from teh Astral to a manifest zone of dolurrh or Mabar and animate it as a giant undead fortress made of meat! |

In the Eberron cosmology, the other planes move throughout the Astral. It seems that an Astral Manifest Zone might be either an unbelievable rarity, or perhaps something that might be created through special circumstances in a 'normal' manifest zone. THoughts? |

| #5mahaviraJun 10, 2007 16:08:53 | Those are some excellent ideas. There are a couple of possibilities for astral manifest zones. Possibly they don't exist naturally, and have to be manufactured, either through breaking the link at an existing manifest zone (perhaps through negation, creating a gate to Rizia at a Fernia zone) or finding somehwere with good feng sui and setting it up with some alien machine. Alternately, they already exist, but their side effects are not as readily observed as those of other planes, and thus have gone unnoticed except perhaps by some reclusive wizard the PCs have to visit to explain certain inexplicable conduct on the part of the Gith (they're forced to set up their HQs at non optimal places because of planar geography, or they fight savage battles over locations of no obvious value). Also, while the PGtE (and dragonshards for that matter) suggest that Githyanki don't have their connection to Red Dragons in Eberron, perhaps they've allied with Planar dragons like Pyroclastic or howling dragons (if you have draconomicon) or just different looking dragons with a familliar stat block. Or be mean: they have found the Orb of Red Dragonkind, and an adventure could be retrieving it from some sort of machine made of Siberys shards which allows the orb to command dozens of dragons at a time. |
| #6Charles_PhippsMar 22, 2008 23:43:40 | I'm organizing a Githyanki Invasion for my Shadows over Cyre Play By Post (shhhh don't tell anyone) and I was curious if I could get everyone's help in making it suitably fit the Eberron genre while also going in a slightly oddball direction. Basically, I was thinking of making the Githyanki serve the role of 'alien invaders' in the campaign. I figured the Githyanki could be a good "Grays" substitute with their Astral Dreadnoughts and other ships substituting for UFOs, the Illithid leftover science substituting for the typical scientiffic experimentation from kidnappings (perhaps to unlock psionic potential of future pawns?), and human collaborators existing in the highest levels of the Four Nation's government that think that the Githyanki will help them win the Last War. I was curious if you had any ideas for developing this particular idea. Like, what groups would be interested in helping the Githyanki and possibly opposing them? Likewise, I was thinking of possibly using some Pulp Fun Tropes. * The War of The Worlds style broadcast/coverup by Orson Wells. * The Githyanki eventually launching an H.G. Wells style assault on Sharn. * Possibly using bacteria as a weapon against them. I'm open for other in-genre suggestions as well. |
