Jul 15, 2008 2:18:13 Is there still room for golems in a world where warforged and warforged titans are the "norm"?

In the early days of the Last War do you suppose any side tried to use iron golems as siege weapons or are they just too limited in their ability to follow commands?

Is anyone interested in crafting a flesh golem to learn the secrets of life or have living-constructs taken the magic out of the quest, so to speak?

I used to think of these things as "old magic". But as it became clear that WF have been around since the time of giants they've lost some of their mystique.

Definitely. Outside of Thrane and Karrnath, Warforged have become a free people. As such, they no longer fill the niche of the golem that they did during the Last War.

Also with the creation of new Warforged outlawed, I'd imagine golems have gained more popularity since the end of the Last War.

I used to think of these things as "old magic". But as it became clear that WF have been around since the time of giants they've lost some of their mystique.

The Warforged from the age of giants are different from those that exist in the modern day and even the old ones have lain unexamined for several millenia.

Also conisder:
-Only House Cannith can make warforged. (Then again, the LOBster might be able to and we know the Drow of Xen'drik can make warforged scorpions so...)
-Golems can be built to do weird things that warforged usually cannot. (IE: Siege Golems.)
-Golems, as insentient beings, do not go nuts and wreck your lab or end up sitting in a corner babbling just because you buried them for a couple of months.
-The Five Nations cannot use golems as an excuse to smash down your front door and drag you off to the gallows for illegally experimenting on a sentient being.
-House Cannith are pretty tight with their secrets. Not perfect, but if you want to study warforged then you're going to have to start from scratch.

The Last War was over a hundred years long.
Thats 60+ years of all out war between highly advanced magical nations with industrial capacity to churn out magical weapons and items.

Yes, there would be lots of old war golems around, IMO.
