| #1Montonius1Sep 17, 2008 12:52:36 | Hi I have recently created, for free download and use by players and fans of Eberron alike, a compilation of all historical information on Eberron drawn from all of the existing 3.5 Edition Sourcebooks and Internet articles. In the great tradition of the original Internet-based Grand History of the Realms, I present the Grand History of Eberron! I hope it is of great use for Eberron DMs and players seeking that last little piece of needed lore for a new campaign or exciting adventure. Please let me know what you think. This document contains information drawn from all of the existing Eberron books and articles with a small amount of editing to make a coherent document. And some maps, gotta love the maps! Please take a look, feel free to download the document at your convenience, in both Word or PDF format (you need to sign up for the site below but its free and does not send spam) and let me know what you think. The Grand History has been revised to drastically reduce the number of footnotes and to include new material, including a much-needed Table of Contents, a Gazeteer of the Five Nations, new pictures and descriptions of all the dragonmarked houses, the unique races of Eberron, the religions of Eberron and a set of historical maps. At Keith Baker's request, the Grand History now also includes a full acknowledgement of both his work and the work of all the others who have created the wonderful lore of Eberron and a small Bibliography is also now attached at page 3. The Grand History has been changed to tighten the text, drastically reduce the number of footnotes and to include new material, including a Gazeteer of the Five Nations, a Table of Contents (little bit skewed in the PDF version because of the changed formatting, the Word version is perfectly formatted) and descriptions of all the dragonmarked houses, the unique races of Eberron, the religions of Eberron and a set of historical maps. Unfortunately, Google Pages is no longer accepting new members, so Scribd will have to remain the primary mode of transmission for now, but the PDF version of the file is relatively small (5MB) and I give full permission to anyone out there who would like to download it and post it in a more accessible or more oft-traveled website. Any links to the previous version of the Grand History need to be changed to the one that now is present on the initial post in this thread or at the bottom of this post. The Grand History is also available in the Eberron Lore Forum.
This is the final version of the Grand History until 4E Eberron releases, so I hope it is of great use to everybody who enjoys the lore of this wonderful world. I would like to make this link a sticky so everyone could enjoy it, if that is possible. Please feel free to make any comments or offer any suggestions. Enjoy!

There are numerous file hosters: Rapidshare, Megaupload, etc. Just pick one. |

In addition, because of some people who have had trouble signing up for Scribd or getting it to work the Grand History of Eberron is now also available for free download from www.rapidshare.com, a site that requires no sign-up. The Grand History is in both Word and PDF format, though I personally prefer the Word format since the PDF format changed the formatting slightly in translation. As always, enjoy and please feel free to comment or suggest further improvements or new additions. The download is slower than Scribd, but more accessible, and the PDF downloads much more quickly. | #10Montonius1Oct 13, 2008 0:49:59 | In response to the promptings of some fans of the Grand History I have added several new sections, including Gazeteers of Sarlona and Argonessen and new appendices detailing the important organizations that operate on those continents. The historical events of these continents have also been added to the main timeline in greater detail. As a result, the Grand History now covers material on all of the known continents of Eberron. As always, all information has been revised to reflect 4E where the possibility of obvious translations of 3.5 Edition material to 4E material exists (for instance making Aundairian Knights Arcane into swordmages instead of duskblades). If you have already downloaded the Grand History, please do so again to get the revised material and enhance your enjoyment of this netbook. If you have not yet downloaded the Grand History, please do do. The links on the first post in this thread have been updated with the revisions. As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions for improvements and further useful additions. Enjoy! |

It is possible that Rapidshare was just down as a site at the time you tried to download it, which does happen a lot because the site is often doing maintenance. Please try again it should function. As to Scribd, that site does require you to sign up, which is why the Rapidshare links were implemented for those who do not wish to do so. However, as I have mentioned before, there is no spam from Scribd for those who do sign up, so there is no real penalty for doing so. I have personally never received one piece of spam mail from them. If you still are unable to download from Rapidshare, it may be that your personal computer settings are blocking the download. Make sure you have cookies enabled when you try and download from Rapidshare, it may help. But I believe the problem should be solved. Hope you enjoy the Grand History! |

| #15bigmacOct 26, 2008 9:24:38 | RapidShare says that it deletes files if they are not downloaded for a certain amount of time and forcing people to sign up to a service creates an obsticle between them and your great download.
Have you considered offering your download to the webmaster of one of the Eberron fan websites? (Or offering it to all the webmasters of the Eberron fansites?)
Jhonen Olain's Eberron Journal seems to be a well run Eberron fansite that should be around for years. The Dragon Above and Online Eberron also seem to be good. It seems to me that these places are where Eberron fans are going to be looking for things like your Grand History of Eberron, so putting on one or all of these websites is going to make it easy for your target audience to find it.
Plus you could always ask Kieth Baker if he wants to host it on his personal homepage Bossythecow.com. I can't see any room on his website for fan created stuff, but if you don't ask, you don't find out. (At the very least, you might be able to post it on the other big fansites and then get him to mention it on his Live Journal blog.)
If you do another update, it might be nice if you could turn the contents page into internal hyperlinks (so that people can click to jump to the correct chapter) and add some bookmarks (so that people can use them to navigate to chapters and sections).

I have emailed the contacts for each of the websites you suggested and have requested that they take a look at the Grand History and possibly host it or link to it if they enjoy it. Unfortunately Jonen Olain's contact information is no longer current and his registered contact email no longer functions, so that website seems to be off the list. I will update you on how the rest goes. Keep your fingers crossed. LOL.
As to Rapidshare and Scribd, Rapidshare to my knowledge has never deleted the Grand History because it has always received downloads every day since it was uploaded. When people have trouble downloading it is usually because the RapidShare site itself is down or people's browsers are configured wrong for the download. I will continue to note that there is no reason not to sign up for Scribd as there is NO spam, which is the primary reason I know why people dislike signing up, though of course they may also dislike having their email address put on another list or whatever; there's nothing I can do about that. Hopefully, your suggestions about the Eberron websites will pay off and this will become less of a problem.
Finally, as to your suggestions about the bookmarking, and internal hyperlinking. Those are great ideas. I am not entirely sure about how to do it within the pdf version; I will definitely look into it. Overall, thank you again for the information and suggestions they have been of enormous help. If you know of anyone else who could help me disseminate the Grand History to a wider audience of Eberron lovers please let me know and of course if you have any further suggestions for improvement of the text please let me know as well. Please keep reading since as the 4E release of the Eberron Campaign Guide grows closer, the Grand History will eventually be revised to reflect the new content. Hope you enjoyed it! |

There have been massive formatting changes, revisions, removal of typos, tightening of the text and major additions at every level of the book. Now more than ever, the GHoE can serve as your primary supplement to the upcoming 4th Edition Eberron Campaign Guide and Player's Guide.
