Help me! (Daelkyr and the Inspired)

So, I'm in need for some ideas for my Eberron campaign...

I was about to write it all down from the start, to give a little bit of a background, but I don't think that would help much.

Anyways, the characters are about to reach lvl 11 (after 10 months) and they ended up making more troubles than helping the world.

Right now, there are two things that are about to happen to the world (partially due to their fault) that I can't quite walk them off of it.

Firstly, well, the daelkyr are about to get themselves free from their bindings. One just got released (although, they didn't know) and he's "disguised" as a great hobgoblin hero. He'll make the goblinoids attack, and there's nothing the pcs can do about it right now.

Here comes my first question then:
Where can I find more information on the daelkyr? Do we know for sure how many there are (I'm assuming there are six)? Where are they "sleeping"? Any names and such? The only one I ever heard about is the one presented on the book. I'd just like to know how far the cannon goes with them.

Then we got the Inspired. Basicly, the PCs visited Q'Barra twice throughout the campaign. The first time they went there, they learned about these creatures, and that they had plans on building giant egglike structures, though, they couldn't do much about it as they couldn't prove anything...

On the second visit (they now need to visit Haka'Torvhak, something concerning the prophecy), they come to Adderport and New Throne and see that things have changed. They find out that the inspired built several of those monoliths, and now they hold New Throne under their laws and so on. Sebastes is dead, and most of his people either got "brainwashed" or ran to Adderport.

So I thought, "ok, they need to stop this".

And then comes my second question:
Given the immortal nature of the Inspired, how do you stop them?

I was reading about this guy called Lord Zoratesh, and that if something ever happens in Khorvaire, it'd probably be his fault, and that the Dreaming Dark and the other power groups disapprove of him. Would stopping him be enough? But even then, how do you stop him?

On my game, the prophecy says of this event called "The Night of Nightmares" (wow, that sounds really stupid in english) in which the Inspired would play a rather big role, and the pc's met a few kalashtars along the way that could confirm that... and it's supposedly going to happen soon. So now they're pretty scared.

If requested I could give more details on the campaign, but for now, I don't want to bother everybody reading this.
Thanks in advance, also any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

There are believed to be six.  As is usually the case with Eberron, there is no "official" word on exactly how many there are.  Names are mentioned for some others throughout the books/novels.  They are...

Dyrrn, the Corruptor.

Belashyrra, Lord of Eyes. This guy's in the ECS if I recall correctly.

Orlassk, Master of Stone.

Kyrzin, Prince of Slime.

Not exactly a whole lot of info on them.  Each one has an affinity for creating a particular kind of monsters- as if their names weren't enough of a clue.

And then comes my second question:

An "Inspired" themselves are not immortal.  An "Inspired" is a specially bred and raised mortal that are the general rulers of Redria.  However, all Inspired can be taken over at any time by a Quori (big psychic lobster tentacle dream monsters) and *those* are the immortal guys that really run everything.

Inspired can be killed, but the Quori can just possess another Inspired, or if it wants to, pretty much any mortal creature. Quori can be slain as well, but they just go to their dream realm, get reborn, and keep coming back.  This can be quite the inconvenience, but in the long run, it won't stop them from plotting.

So if your players are going to want to try and foil the plot of the Quori/Inspired, they're going to need a better plan than just running in and killing them all.  In the case of the Quori/Inspired, the majority of their power comes from how they control the nature and distribution of information.

Think of it this way.  How would you ruin the carreer of a powerful and popular businessman or politician *without* killing them?

Thanks for the reply Alex.

Yeah, I saw the book a couple days ago (should have done that before posting here) and I didn't remember there were info there about the others besides Belashyrra.

Then last week I finished reading The Queen of Stone and found the info there on Orlassk.

So since there are 5 named daelkyr named I'll just go with them and create a new one, residing under Darguun. I guess it fits well with what I have planned.

Yeah, that was exactly my point.

Right now I think, the best way for them (the players) to stop it would be to wipe them all from Q'barra, as that would make the quori reconsider their methods. As I read on that "The Grand History of Eberron" there's this guy, Lord Zoratesh, that is sort of a rogue quori who thinks he's better than the others and is looking for some action, that would fit well in here. I think that, if the players manage to stop him, the big ones would just pull him back (along with those who joined him).

If you're looking for a long-term solution, you stop the Inspired by turning the Age of Dal Quor. The Plane of Dreams goes through cycles, and it's getting due for a change. The Inspired are holding this at bay through their actions - it's one of the purposes of the monoliths that they build. Should the age turn, all the quori will be drawn back into it and re-emerge as... something else. What, exactly, depends on the nature of the next age. The Kalashtar say that it's going to be an age of light, driven by il-Yannah instead of il-Lashtavar. A question is what happens to Riedra and, for that matter, the Kalashtar if that happens. Are they suddenly vessels for spirits of light, or will it take a century for the new spirits to settle and emerge? If so, Riedra could go through some dramatic political shifts; by protecting Khorvaire, players could cause untold suffering in Riedra.

In any case, if you want to defeat the Dreaming Dark for good, introduce a macguffin that turns the age.

Thanks Keith!

That's surely something I hadn't thought about... now... hum...

Hah, I'm not sure I'm prepared to do something such as big (I mean, in my game the war has already restarted, some clues behind what really happened with Cyre were given, Darguun is united and ready for action, but for some reason I don't think I can handle the turn of age).

On the other hand, I have plans for the ending to be something apocalyptic, then maybe I could fit...

... hum, yeah, I could think of a McGuffin (I got some dragons waiting on my right pocket hoarding the prophecies)... now now, you gave me some ideas to work with, thanks again!

Two big evil forces, huh?

Any way to turn them against each other?

Although that sounds like a good idea to me, there would be 2 problems:

-Firstly I know myself and it would mean that in the end the two evil groups would just join forces to destroy the world... or something like that, heh...
-Secondly, I really don't want this campaign to be centered on the inspired/dreaming dark, I want that this relation the PCs have with them ends quickly, so they can get back to what seems the goal for them, which is, dealing with the daelkyr...

That being said, it would be rather clever if the PCs manage to put up a plan to place one against the other, and if they do, I'll play it out and see what happens

Now, instead of making a new thread, I'll just ask here.

The characters are chasing the inspired, and they already know the destination, Taer Lian Doresh. I don't think they know that, in  there, both planes converge and that the quori can "manifest physically", they'll have a big surprise.

Where can I find monster stats for the quori for 4e? I tried the compendium and it only lists Inspired stats (the two that show up inside Eberron Campaign Guide), but no quori.

If there is none, what would be cool abilities to give them?

One should be a soulknife style (skirmisher), and the other more like a telepath (controller, although, I think it should be noted, PCs faced more Dominate lately than I'd like to admit, so I'm ruling it out on this one)

Again, thanks in advance

Actually, the Inspired have no interest in destroying the world at all.  On the contrary, they want to tule a stable, predictable, and intact world.  The whole reason they invaded and took over Sarlonna was to impose a state of relative stability.

They believe that by controlling the mortal world, they also control the dream world.  They're afraid of the mortal world undergoing some change that will incidentally affect the dreamworld and cause them to dissappear.

Daelkyr want to turn everything into horrible insane mutant abominations.

There haven't been any *official* stats for 4E Quori yet.  Many fans have posted stats here on the forums.  Personally, I would look to the Starspawn and other abberations (particular those related to dreams and psychic powers) from the Monster Manuals as examples.

Yeah, I know, I said destroy the world more like in a force of expression, but I honestly don't want both forces to clash.

Thanks, I'll take a look at the star spawn and try to find what the community made on these forums.

Actually, Dragon 181 has stats for a hashalaq quori in the Taer Lian Doresh article.

Hum, I've found some interesting stuff homebrewed by AvonRekaes, I think I'll give it a try.

Yeah, I saw the hashalaq quori, but I guess I haven't been much specific with what I'm looking for. I wanted a usvapna quori, and the other one is a kalaraq, but I don't think the pcs will want to fight him.
