| #1mightybruceOct 25, 2009 15:03:15 | Short Version: I’m planning on running a Paragon-level Eberron campaign in a few months. I’d like some pre-packaged modules and/or “mega-dungeons” around which to center the campaign. It doesn’t matter if the module(s) are old or Eberron specific as long as they’re adaptable and broadly level appropriate.
Long version: I will be on hiatus from gaming until early next year because my wife just had a baby. (Yay!!!). In that time off I want to plan the next campaign. We just finished a game in my version of PoLand that started with KotS and contined through a heavily modified version of the original Temple of Elemental Evil. We just ended the campaign with the characters at 10th level. I tell you these things to highlight two important aspects of my DMing: 1) Even when I start back running the game, I won't have a lot of time to prepare. I will have a two children under 3, a full time job, and be in school part time. Why I think I can pull off running a DnD game is a mystery; but if I want to keep my sanity, I need to give it a go. While I don't need a totally prepared adventure (a la the 4E WotC modules), I do need fairly concrete ideas. So when I have the half-hour to prepare on Saturday night I can say "Oh, yeah. They're about to go into the swamp with the Bullywugs and the Black Dragon. Let me print off some stats." and be done. 2) I am not the best at coming up with my own, completely homemade adventures. I'm good at adapting other's material to my group, updating old stuff to 4E, and stringing together otherwise disparate adventures. However, I'm terrible at coming up with my own stuff whole cloth. In short I'm not a "read the boxed text" kinda guy but I really need a pre-engineered framework. For example, I took ToEE, came up with a plot about a recent uprising from the Temple and how some Drow were involved, plopped down Hommlet et al on the map, and hit play. It worked pretty well and didn't take too much work. All this meant I didn't have to make up maps, names, or a general environment; just adapt what was there to my ideas. END Long Version
I know there are a blue-million adventures out there. My concern is having one that well adapts to Eberron without too much shoehorning. While the dungeon under Mount Ingeneraworld can be put in the Howling peaks or wherever, something like Ravenloft is so tied to particular NPC's and a particular theme as to be unadaptable to the Eberron milieu.
AFAIK, none of the people who will be playing in this game frequent these boards. So no need to worry about spoilers.

| #2GiloOct 25, 2009 17:10:37 | Congratulations Mightybruce,
I'm planning to incorporate "[P1] King of the Trollhaunt Warrens" (11th-13th level) into my Eberron campaign. I haven't hammered all the details yet, but it looks like an easy module to adapt for Eberron.
The easiest approach would probably be to set it in Dorram, Shadow Marches or the Eldeen Reaches. But for my current campaign I've decided to set this module in the Valenar:
----------- SPOILERS: for King of the Trollhaunt Warrens -----------
I'm going to set the town of Moonstair in the Valenar eastern frontier. An half-elf town, supported by House Lyrandar, its people pious followers of the Sovereign host and the legends of the Firstborn, separatist in there dealing with the Tairnadal (I'm having a kind of Hamish theme for it).
I'm going to tie the Moon Door (which is a portal to Thelanis) appearance near town to the Mourning-Feyspires back story.
The Vardar will be a reference to an ancient troll kingdom from the Age of Monsters that fail following the expansion of Dhakaani empire, the Trollhaunt in eastern Valenar hold a few of its remnants.
Etheran will be a Tairnadal prince leading his companions - a Valenar elf warband in search of fame and glory in the Trollhaunt, his death set one of the hooks for adventure.
If you decide to use this module, maybe we could compare notes...

For instance, some adventures from Dungeon that I've dropped into my campaign include Stormcrow Tor (which can easily be dropped in any wilderness location, I've picked the forest immediately outside of Thaolist), Remains of the Empire can concievably be located anywhere in Aundir (spelling, sorry) or any arbitrary farming community with ammendments made to accomodate the fallen castle somewhere and Tarrif of Relkingham which I have changed the cultists to be Blood of Vol instead of Vecna, and made adjustments to some things accordingly and changed the location from Relkingham to a coastal city somewhere.
There's an article somewhere about adjusting Keep on the Shadowfell to Eberron, and there is always Seekers of the Ashen Crown (which is Eberron ready made).
Of course, you're at Paragon Tier and I'm not that far along yet but I'm sure published 4.0 modules will be easily fit into Eberron - it's a different story (as you expressed) with pre 4.0 material.

But its probably best used in addition to some other super module and not as the main focus of a campaign. |
