| #1wraithstrikeMay 30, 2008 23:22:01 | It seems that from what I have read about the dragons on Argonessan(sp?) they dont like visitors to the continent. I wanted to do an adventure there, but I would like to know how hostile they are as a whole. Are adventurers treated like A: Behave and I wont have to eat youB:INTRUDERS MUST DIE ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I wanted to do an adventure there, but I would like to know how hostile they are as a whole. Are adventurers treated like Well obviously it depends on the dragon but I'd say there are enough dragons of position B to make it a bad idea for PCs not appropriately powerful. The dragons of position A are certainly not going to step in to save you. The ECS does say it's thought no one has ever set foot inside and lived to tell the tale. For sure The Vast would be the worst place they could go aside from the cursed areas. The INTERIOR of Argonnessen is usually reserved for high level adventures. I'd offer the beaches full of Seren barbarians as a lower level alternative still set on Argonnessen. But you're the DM. The dragons are as hostile as you need them to be for your story. |

They do say that if you are in the Preserve ( I think that's the right name, I don't have my books with me atm), you're likely to be caught up as pawns between to "warring" dragons. There is a free humanoid city in Argonessan, but it's not widely known in the outside world (legends, etc). Personally, I wouldn't really want to even try my luck in Argonessan without proper invitation. Chances are high you'll be attacked. |
| #4wraithstrikeMay 31, 2008 0:16:04 | I have not designed the adventure yet, but I remember seeing a pic of hundreds of dragons flying overhead, and that is when I thought, "is this something I really want to do", but I guess some type of invitation could make it possible. |
| #5ornitoMay 31, 2008 0:34:57 | I think the Light of Siberys is usually patrolling the area between the Seren barbarians and the Vast. While that place seems like a likely place to begin in Argonnessen there's relatively nothing said about border patrols anywhere else. That said the best place to go unnoticed in Argonnessen is the Vast simply because anything can be there and the dragons routinely import creatures to hunt for sport. I think the base CR for creatures wandering the Vast is around 12 so anything lower than that and your group will get eaten by the animals. Though if you really want to kick start an Argonnessen adventure you could just have the PCs captured by a dragon who then releases them in his domain in the Vast to brag to the other dragons, "Hey Biff, look what I caught!" Or he could deposit them in a rival's territory in the hope of them killing him. Really the only thing that really keeps people from leaving Argonnessen is that if they survive chances are they've managed to secure some kind of a base of operations in the one humanoid city in the Vast and really once you're set up there, you have no real incentive to go back to where you came from. It feels like its designed to be a planar metropolis style city on Eberron and its certainly fully functional as written to host an epic campaign doing just about whatever. |

That it is effectively 100% off limits to the players until they reach a power level (likely really freaking epic) where they could stand up to the entire draconic army at once. For me, Argonessa is not an adventure location, under any circumstances. Any non-dragon attempting to step foot on it is going to be eradicated before they even get there, with resistance growing exponentially stronger the closer you get. The only two exceptions I'd make would be someone inviting you to the humanoid city, or being invited by the draconic council, and in both instances it would be full retaliation mode if you so much as step foot outside of your little designated area. |

I like this idea also. I guess the fact that nobody has ever returned is a good reason not to show up there. |
| #8EdymnionMay 31, 2008 15:58:29 | That said, I did enjoy Dragons of Argonessa and the basic idea of how it works, even if my players will never see any of it. But then, I'm the type that really liked the Similarion, because it showed what was going on behind the scenes of Lord of the Rings. I feel its important to understand all of the wheels within wheels going on in the background in order to present a good scene in the foreground. Its just good worldbuilding, IMO. 90% of whats going on should effectively be off camera. |
