| #1generallyuniqueJun 01, 2008 20:37:08 | So I'm running a goblin based campaign, and in the campaign a couple of the players are going to be getting the Dragonmark of Blood. Now, as this isn't an actual Dragonmark, I was wondering if you guys could help me pick exactly what it might do. Here's what I have so far. The Mark of Blood focuses more inwardly than do the other marks. Is center aspect is the improving, or altering, or perfecting, of one's own self physically. It allows the following choices for a least mark: Enlarge Person 1/day, Reduce Person 1/day, Beastland Ferocity 1/day. Additionally, you get a +2 to Concentration. Alternatively, given the bugbears', hobgoblins', and goblins' huge affection for war, it may be a war-type mark. Something that grants, say, +1 to attack for everyone or something. I'm undecided as of yet. So I'm just wondering if you guys have any ideas or criticisms. If so, please let me know. |

| #3nobodez_hereJun 02, 2008 2:00:27 | How about: Least: Expansion (XPH) 1/day, Claws of the Beast (XPH) 1/day, Thicken Skin (XPH) 1/day, or Call Weapon (XPH) 1/day; +2 Concentration Lesser: Empathic Feedback (XPH) 1/day, Claws of the Vampire (XPH) 1/day, Vampiric Weapon (XPH) 1/day Greater: Form of Doom (XPH) 1/day Syberys: True Metabolism (XPH) 1/day I used psionic powers to give a different feel for the Mark of Blood, especially since powers usually have a more personal effect. Since they are psi-like abilities, there's no flash or psionic flavor (expect for the auto-scaling of the powers due to ML increase). I was inititially going to keep Mystrich's Iron Body, but instead went with True Metabolism because it's a slightly better self-buff (fast healing 10 w/ regeneration for 15 minutes is quite powerful) without all the Iron Golem vulnerabilities. |
| #4snarky_monkeyJun 02, 2008 10:07:54 | Since it's to be a goblin house I am not sure how psionics would be appropriate? Not using them much in my campaigns, are gobs high in potential or some such? Other than that, it seems like a good setup. |

Because they are spell-like abilities, there's no way to tell if they are spell-base or power-based, since there's no indication either way when they are activated. Also, aside from expasnion (which can, with a greater mark, get you up to huge size), and metaphsyical weapon (think of it as a kind of composite between magic weapon and greater magic weapon), there are all abilities you can't emulate with spells. And because there's no connections (aside from the maligned blue) between psionics and goblins, you get an air of mystery. They become unique and cool, not just another re-hash of some spell. |
| #6missekatJun 02, 2008 15:25:24 | Oh, I have got to follow this discussion. I'm currently stumped in my campaign, because I'm moving the plot towards the emergens of a new mark. It will either be called the Mark of War or the Mark of the Beast. (Depending on which of two races gets it.. prophecy is unclear *smirk*). I can totally use this :D <--*glee* My group is brainstormimg the issue this week, (yeah, I give them homework), and if they come up with something neat, I'll let U guys know. |
| #7generallyuniqueJun 03, 2008 2:01:00 | Oh, I have got to follow this discussion. I talked with one of my Marked players and he suggested more of a war-mark. Because for 1: this will increase Dhakaan's rivalry with Denieth, which I am all about, and two, war is what they DO. Here was the first mark we came up with: 1/day Beastland Ferocity 1/day Blessed Aim skill: Likely either concentration or survival (for battling in the forests or something). For lesser mark: 1/day Lay of the Land for Greater: 1/day Burning Blood this takes it away from the 'improve yourself' and more towards 'lead an army'. Whaddya think? |
| #8missekatJun 03, 2008 11:02:08 | I think it's awesome. I'd go for the survival, but then I'm planning to use most of it as my Mark of The Beast ![]() But can you refresh me on Lay of The Land? Don't think I know that one.. |
