Has anyone used this 'new' Dragonmarked house as of yet as a plot device /antagonist? I have a character who has an aberrant mark and is looking to perhaps join, but I want to get a feel for how they have been presented so far.
Thanks |

This pretty much. I like to think of them as kind of mocking the styles and customs of the other Dragonmarked houses as part of their motif. Like a violent warlord who fancies himself a legitimate and refined king. |

It started with a trip into the past into pre-sharn to acquire an artifact, some kinds of psionic doomsday device which Tarkannan had created to get his vengeance. It were actually 3 pretty cool adventures in which Tarkannan was depicted both as a victim, but not a blameless one. The PCs worked together with Tarkannan in the 2nd one, but would be betrayed. |

My party has had various encouters with the House, some benign, some certainly not. I was actually intrigued to see the House fully stated up and given details in 4th Ed Eberron. As an aside I had been planning for the House to go legit as a DM for a while now. The party along with some intrepid Tarkannan spelunkers were digging around the ancient ruins beneath the city and find some ancient crypt from the time of the War of the Mark. Contained within is a sealed journal from a former member of Sivis who went against his house when he learned what their genocidal plans were (he also had a sister with an Aberrant mark). Tarkannan took the journal and all it's damning evidence, made heaps of back-up copies and approached the Twelve. They delivered and ultimatum. The Twelve were to issue a public statement recognising the formation of a 13th House, House Tarkannan. The House would act as an amnesty for anybody with an aberrant mark. Persecution and prejudice against their "aberrant brothers" would no longer be tolerated and the Twelve were personally making steps to extend the hand of friendship after some many centuries of pain. The Twelve knew what the damning journal would do to them, especially with the number of key power-players on Khorvaire becoming wary of the Dragonmarked Houses power post the Thronehold Accords. They couldn't afford the scandal, the loss of power and possible long-term repercussions. They relented and House Tarkannan was officially born. Interestingly enough I used the Chaos Beast as their symbol, since it's form is fluid and always changing, always different like the Aberrant Marks. And of course a few weeks later the new ECG and EPG arrives, with House Tarkannan all shiny and new... So yeah, James Wyatt I've got my tin-foil hat on. You can stop reading my thoughts now :P ! |

My back up character in our current game is House Tarkanan so I eagerly await this. Only problem I forsee is my current character Kalarharath, Kalashtar psion, having an 'accident' if it's too good. So hopefully you didn't do your usual job of writing a gripping tale |
| #9soyimSep 08, 2009 15:14:56 | The Game i'm about to begin running uses an Aberrant Marked Aurum Lord as a Puppet Master playing both his rich buddies; House Tarkanen; and the Swords of Liberty against the Twelve. Its a bit of a Xanatos Gambit game- but i think its looking pretty good: i may post the first session after i run it. Mostly i would advise to remember that all houses- even houses composed of eldrtich horror marked mutants- have good people and bad people in them. The game gets boring when you can expect the same thing from everyone; especially in Eberron. Having a sympathetic and persecuted Aberrant Marked NPC that the PC's realize they can't protect- and then decide will only be safe with a group of proto-terrorists is a classic Noir Moment: made all that much sweeter if she comes back to kill them later for abandoning her to the fate she wanted to avoid. Or turn their expectations on its head and have her arrive with a group of Mutant Marked Assassins to save the party when Thurani or Pharlian decide that they know too much. |

problem is: a hellcow bites through all kind of foils, in search for the underlying chocolate. while it might not read your thoughts, it still will see you as a nice little snack. ![]() |
