| #1ScrinoverlordSep 19, 2008 21:56:40 | Or just Sarlona in general? I have a funny feeling it won't be until 2076 that Wizards will release the Psionics Book for 4E, so anyone have any recommendations for running a campaign in Riedra for 4E? |
| #2ChrisTheSSep 19, 2008 22:38:18 | Take the [class of your choice], change the power source to Psi, add the Psychic keyword to all the powers, create a disease track for mind seed and grant any Dreaming Dark NPC the power to inflict it, and you've got pretty much everything you need there. For quori manifestations, the stats for abominations should do nicely (with Psi and Psychic added to their power descriptions, of course). Not sure how to handle Inspired/kalashtar PCs, but NPCs are easy. Incidentally, in spite of what the 'Converting your character' articles say, Ranger makes a better match for soulknives than Rogue does (since it incorporates both the dual-wielding and throwing ability that's been the hallmark of every soulknife character I've seen in play). |
| #3the_ubbergeekSep 19, 2008 22:39:20 | A remark; don't 3e books already offered some non-psionic alternatives? An arcane(?) mind magic stuff? I guess the 4th trend on reflavoring could do there. Psychic damages... effects... |
| #4mystrichSep 19, 2008 23:45:19 | 1. For psionic characters, the fey warlock works best. Many of it's power deal psychic damage. 2. Monsters/NPCs don't have class levels in 4e. Give it a psychic power or make a power on an existing creature psychic, and then add it to a human statblock. |
| #5wymarcSep 20, 2008 9:03:17 | simple - the players are not psionic. The NPCs can do whatever you want ![]() |
| #6GiloSep 20, 2008 10:29:12 | In Inspired Sarlona - campaigns run you. ![]() |
| #7adamenfuegoSep 21, 2008 22:31:13 | I'm actually running a campaign in Sarlona 1,500 years before the present day. This gets around the psionics, warforged, dragonmarks and other elements we're still waiting to become official. It's a great way to introduce players to the history of Eberron without overwhelming them with new options. This is right about the time the Quori begin thier manipulations of the empires and cause civil war... You can modify the Scales of War adventures to simulate a humanoid army, controlled by Quori masters. In my game, the Quori have not yet perfected the skills to modify living hosts to accept Quori spirits, but they are able to inhabit the dead and use the denizens of the Shadowfell to cross into Eberron. let me know if you want more info. |
| #8mystrichSep 21, 2008 22:35:02 | warforged I never understood why people continue to say Warforged are not official. They are in the Monster Manual and have an article made to give more options to play. |
| #9AlasSep 22, 2008 14:00:48 | As has been mentioned, you can represent psionics (in the short term) by selecting powers with the "psychic" descriptor. This class acts article in Dragon #364 has a bunch of illusion spells that fit the bill. You could recast the wizard as a psion by using those spells and changing the orb and wand implements to a psicrystal and dorje. Both fey pact and star pact warlocks would be appropriate for representing characters who channel the psychic powers of the Quori-- these could be Inspired devotees or kalashtar "mind witches." Statting out the Quori and the Inspired might require a little more work. Personally I'd start with either Fey or Aberrant creatures from the Monster Manual and tweak them to focus on psychic attacks. Making them up from scratch using the rules in the DMG, I'd tend to make the Inspired skirmishers or controllers, with Elite and Leader options. The Quori I'd see as elite or even solo controllers, with plenty of Riedran minions to protect them. |
| #10mystrichSep 23, 2008 22:49:59 | I'd suggest using IEatTroll's Humans of the 5 Nations stats for a bulk of the enemy, redescribing their extra attacks as psionic abilities. Aundair works especially well, but Brelands could be a psychic push, and Thrane could be a psionic retaliation. http://www.dragon-above.com/index.php?p=4emonsters/eberron_soldiers Their now using Reidran Crystal longswords though. |
| #11ScrinoverlordOct 08, 2008 20:06:46 | Meh. So far, I haven't been able to do much in my Eberron campaign regarding Sarlonan adventures. The PCs just arrived in Dar Jin...and I have to postpone the campaign for a while just to do mass 3.5-4.0 conversions. |
| #12bossemeyerOct 08, 2008 23:54:50 | I feel kind of bad saying this with out any constructive comments to help you but i just wanted to point out that this thread would be better off in the "Eberron: Running Eberron" Forums |
| #13ScrinoverlordOct 19, 2008 14:41:36 | Well I suppose it does go better there, but until a moderator moves it, I need more input. I'm waiting for a response from the Big Daddy himself, but any more suggestions to running a 4e Sarlona campaign would be great. Bear in mind, I only want suggestions that pertain to psionic NPCs and the like. None of my PCs really like psionics, so trying to apply a 3.5-4.0 convert psionics system isn't what I'm trying to do, but a lot of them certainly like the idea of joining up with the Adarans and overthrowing the overlords of Riedra (inspired from Half-Life 2). |
| #14mystrichOct 19, 2008 17:18:46 | Then you have the best suggestion you can. Make new creatures with psionic powers. Creatures don't have the same rules as PCs, so you just make attacks that deal psionic damage, and ta da, you have an inspired. |
| #15ScrinoverlordNov 08, 2008 22:39:06 | I don't know if reviving topics are allowed, but I don't want to make yet ANOTHER topic about this same thing. I was wondering, what exactly kinds of monsters live on Sarlona? Just psionic monsters or...? ...anyone? |
| #16ScrinoverlordNov 12, 2008 19:30:49 | ...Could anyone answer my question above? I'd greatly appreciate it. |
| #17skrapsanNov 12, 2008 23:31:50 | Well I have seen that there are quite a few Ogre mages/oni and some other stuff such as Yuan-Ti hanging around. So I would guess that its the place where you stuff most of your psionic monsters. But I would not limit it just to them, that seems a bit shallow from my perspective. Anyways, just add what you feel makes sense (real helpful advice ain't it :D). |
| #18GiloNov 13, 2008 7:32:17 | I agree with what Skrapsan said and got a few suggestions/comments: You can check the Ecologies of Eberron PDF and do a keyword search for Sarlona. Secrets of Sarlona offered a "Quorbound Creature" template that can be used on MM beast, magical beast, fey creatures that have been effected by the Quari. I suggest converting this 3.5 template into a 4e functional template (DMG p.176). Sarlona got wild zones and manifestation areas, so you can use all sort of of elemental monsters. I think (and hopefully the board will correct me here if I'm wrong) that Goblins, Orcs and probably Kobolds should not be used in Sarlona (or at least are extremely rare). |
| #19skrapsanNov 13, 2008 14:46:25 | I think (and hopefully the board will correct me here if I'm wrong) that Goblins, Orcs and probably Kobolds should not be used in Sarlona (or at least are extremely rare). I second this oppinion, Sarlona is more the place for Tree-kreen and all those strange Dark sun (the campaign setting) races. I would actually say that all the 3.5PHB races are quite rare except for humans. All due to the "cleansing" of the place made by the Quori. |
