Does anybody have a pronounciation guide that's at least quasi-official? If not, I'm looking for the major Dragonmarked Houses (Leer-An-Dar or Lie-Ran-Dur), the Five Nations (Eye-Oohn-Dare or Aw-un-dare), but wouldn't mind knowing what's supposed to be what. |

The most common contention relates to the pronounciation of "Cyre", which is the one addressed in that link. There was a thread on the old boards somewhere as well, though I can't locate it at the moment. The gist seems to be that there are many possible and valid pronunciations due to regional accents - so, in part it's like fighting over the correct way to pronounce "tomato". By analogy to the link above, both Leer-An-Dar and Lie-Ran-Dur work, depending on whether you're in Stormhome or Stormreach. Accents can vary quite a lot over relatively short distances, so the pronounciation of "Aundair" might be different in Ghalt than in Fairhaven, and different again in Thaliost. |
