| #1lunarwolfprimeMar 18, 2008 13:18:50 | I know that it has very likley been asked many a times or just not clarfied but I realy want to know how much the diffrent types of dragon shards go for? I can guess that the sibrey shards go for more than the khyber and ebberon shards but the khyber shards are proably the second most expensive of the three, leaving ebberon shards in dead last in price. |
| #2cloud_dividerMar 18, 2008 22:54:17 | I don't think it's ever been explicitly stated. I've been treating dragonshards as essentially an especially rare gemstone, and priced accordingly. The price is entirely dependent on the quality and size of the stone. A tiny, flawless, perfectly cut Siberys shard of unusual color/properties could be worth tens of thousands of galifars. A thumb-sized, heavily flawed raw Eberron shard (apparently the miners that found it were not particularly careful in how they harvested it) may only be worth a few hundred. It might be worth more if it were broken into smaller pieces and cut by a master gemsmith. By rarity, yeah, Eberron shards are probably the least expensive - they "only" come from the dangerous swamps of the Shadow Marches and the like. Khyber shards come from deep underground, where there's all sorts of nasty hazards (above and beyond cave-ins and traditional mining dangers). Siberys shards are primarily imported from Xen'drik (so they come from a long way away via a trade route fraught with risk, and harvested in a land teeming with danger). All that said, some shards are pretty inexpensive - spellshards, for instance. They go for a whopping 3gp. An Aureon's spellshard goes for 6250gp - it's plausible that most of that cost is from a high-quality Eberron shard. It's not specific as to size - a simple spellshard could be small enough to put into a necklace. An Aureon's spellshard could be as big as a crystal ball (a less expensive, bigger/more flawed stone), or perhaps even as small as a stone that would fit in a ring or pendant. A Khyber shard needed for an Elemental Weapon is likely plenty expensive (half of the cost of a +1 magic weapon on the low end). So you can price them however you want, really. |
| #3SyltorianMar 19, 2008 8:46:18 | I don't think it's ever been explicitly stated. Both the Player's Guide (p.50) and Magic of Eberron (Eberron : p.15, Siberys: p.17; Khyber: p.19) give prices for dragonshards of all types and qualities. The PGtE has a table that is much easier to check; MoE includes the information in its text. I am not sure how much I can say without breaking copyright, unfortunately, so I cannot give you the prices. However, Eberron shards are indeed the cheapest (by far), while greater Siberys and greater Khyber shards are on a par. Smaller Siberys shards are, however, worth less than a small Khyber shard. |
| #4EdymnionMar 19, 2008 12:37:16 | Easiest way to do it, IMO, is to simply add different kinds/cuts/sizes/etc of dragonshards to the gemstone table. Put the biggest, most perfect ones up there with flawless diamonds, while small Eberron shards would be as common as agates and the other "junk" gems. |

| #6SyltorianMar 19, 2008 15:07:58 | sorry not to metion this earlier but what is the frequency of shard falls in the diffrent areas of ebberon say like Xen'drik, or Argonnessen. According to MoE, p.16, Siberys showers happen "infrequently". They happen often enough for prospectors to keep lookouts around, and for the economy to persist without risking to run out of dragonshards, but they are rare enough for mad runs towards the site before someone else gets there. Overall, as a personal opinion, I'd add that 8 out of 10 showers are undetected because they are too deep in the jungle, crash into the sea, or fall on Argonessen where the resident lizards do not welcome miners. If you are interested in dragonshards, however, I would definitely recommend you buy (or browse) Magic of Eberron. Pages 14-19 have the prices, prospecting methods, mining DCs, and other interesting information on them. |

IIRC, Siberys shards are the only ones that fall (obviously), and they they fall almost exclusively around Xen'Drik and parts of Khovaire. There are no dragonshards to be found in Argonessa or Sarlona. |

I swear I read something to the effect of 'there could be enormous untapped feilds of fallen dragonshards there but no one who has seen them has returned to tell the tale'. Why they're not found on Aerenel is beyond me, but it seems that they are not. What about beneath the sea? |
| #11SyltorianMar 20, 2008 7:03:40 | IIRC, Siberys shards are the only ones that fall (obviously), and they they fall almost exclusively around Xen'Drik and parts of Khovaire. There are no dragonshards to be found in Argonessa or Sarlona. Siberys shards, as far as I know, do not fall on Khorvaire (or Sarlona, as you mention); they are found in Equatorial regions only. Sarlona - conflicting information here. ECS states that it is found in equatorial regions, and makes no exception. PGtE claims that Riedra witnesses shard falls. Other sources, notably on Xen'drik and Sarlona, claim the Riedrans came to the Shattered Land because there are no Siberys shards back at home, for reasons nobody understands. Argonessen - As stated in the ECS (p.259), "no prospector has yet dared to explore what must be vast shard fields in Argonessen". That's the quote Gurv was looking for, I assume. So there are shard fields - unless DoE states otherwise, but I have not found anything to that effect - it just is not very wise to go and dig around on that continent. Aerenal - Another equatorial region, but I could not find anything on shard falls there. Seas - I could not find anything either. I seem to have a vague memory that they do not fall into the seas, but I might well be imagining it; I'd actually like the idea that untold riches lie deep beneath the waves. |
