| #1skrap-sanMay 05, 2008 4:50:26 | So I have a group of three players all level six. One is Warforged wizard second is Human barbarian, last is human rouge. All of them are using paizos alpha rules for character creation except I'm using normal feat and xp progression. The setting is as follows: The party is wadering around in Xen'drik looking for a prototype airship that went missing at the late part of the war. They have hired a guide, and has a certain idea as to where they have to go. So when they get there the party discovers that the valley were the ship crashed is considered a dark and evil place by the drow tribes living around the area. So no one is too enter. And a couple of friends of the party (introduced earlier)has been captured so now they have to rescue them, and enter the valley. In here they find the ship, and a surviving captain who has gone partly savage. When they are done exploring the ship they get attacked by a T-rex who has a certain tainted look over it. The idea is that they should escape in an airskiff that actually works down a tight ravine and the T-rex would follow. I know the encounter is hard, but the idea is to survive until the end of the ravine and here they would escape. On the way they would have to slow down the T-rex to survive... Mechanical stuff: I have given the T-rex spell resistance 15 and damage reduction 5/good to make him a bit tougher. I need some inputt as to how the players could slow it down. And any other input that could make this a cool and memorable encounter. |

If the wizard is a evoker, or has some evoker spells, have him blast the ravine wall to create a rock slide, or at least an explosion of stone to slow down the rex. Also, are their trees growing in/alongside this ravine? If so, he could blast them, having them topple into the ravine to create a temporary barrier. Wizard could also literally cast [i]slow[i] on the rex. Is the barbarian crazy? He could jump from the skiff onto the rexs head and pester it, poke it in the eye etc. You'd probably have to make a ruling about that, so the barbarian could still attack and not be considered grappling. I have some homemade rules for it if you are interested. Pretty Eberron-esque though. That's all I've got for now. |

Also, things that make him trip and fall over (Grease) or go blind (Glitterdust). Hmmm, not to sure about that. I know it doesn't say so in the spell description, but if Ray of Stupidity acts like Touch of Idiocy or Ray of Enfeeblement, the effected ability score can't be dropped below 1, but I could be wrong. |
| #6cannibalsmithMay 05, 2008 12:59:09 | You are. Ray of Stupidity is straight no-save 1d4+1 Int damage. Animals have 2 Int and poor touch AC. |
| #7skrap-sanMay 06, 2008 0:31:54 | Thanks for the input blackdragon. Well the barbarian refuses to use ranged weapons for no good reason at all. So this might help him see the value of it. Hmmm exploding arrows might work the same way as the spells... |
| #8mystrichMay 06, 2008 1:01:37 | At first, I thought this was going to be a thread for other bad survival tips like in the side notes in the Explorer's Handbook. "How not to be noticed: 1. Don't be a warforged" |
| #9cannibalsmithMay 06, 2008 1:33:17 | That's a great idea for a 1001 thread. |
| #10BlackDragon71425May 06, 2008 12:56:27 | You are. Ray of Stupidity is straight no-save 1d4+1 Int damage. Animals have 2 Int and poor touch AC. Yeah, looking closer, I see the difference. Ray of Stupidity has no duration, its just bam, your stupid, whereas the 2 spells I mentioned have a duration of 10min/level and 1min/level respectivly, so the effect wears off. So yeah, Ray of stupidity is scary for animals. |
