How to Get the Eberron Boards Split Up Again

Okay, everyone knows the Eberron boards (all 6 of them) have been condensed down to one board. The reason behind this, as stated by the suits themselves, is that they want to see which boards get enough traffic to actually warrent multiple boards.

Any board that gets more than 25 active threads in 24 hours will be considered for splitting, while they've said that any board that gets 50+ active threads in 24 hours is pretty much automatically going to get split up.

The Eberron board is currently getting 16 active threads per day (give or take). If we want the board to get split up again, the only way to do that is to increase the activity these boards get.

Now, we don't want to get called for spamming, but we do need to increase the active thread count. Don't go making junk threads, but if you can think of any topics that would make for legit threads, by all means, post them up. Got stupid ideas for something kicking around in the back of your head? Make a thread asking for help to hammer out details. Pick a section of Eberron you aren't 100% familiar with and ask for help understanding it. Make a thread about funny/cool moments in your Eberron games, whatever you can think of.

And make sure you post to other people's threads.
If we can double (or better yet triple) the amount of traffic this board gets, we might be able to get them to split it up. At the very least we might be able to get it split into a fluff board and a crunch board. If everybody can post one new thread a day, and respond to 3-5 other threads per day, there is a very good chance of this working.

The trick is to get the active thread count up, and keep it up. Look at the bottom of the page, if the last thread on the page doesn't say "Last Post: Today" then we need more threads. Either make one, or dig back to page 2/3/4/5 and find one that you can give a legit response to. The closer we can push the active threads to the third page, the more likely we are to get the boards split back up.

Remember, look at the last thread on the page. If it hasn't been posted to today, then its up to you to find something to say to fix that. Once we can get it to where page 1 is always full, we need to move on to trying to fill page 2 as well.

While I liked the old format quite a lot, it's completely unrealistic that we'll get that back, with all the work it would be to move all those threads around to the right place, or refill a bunch of forums.

However, I really can't think of too many good ways to just split the Eberron forum. Crunch and fluff just doesn't sit right with me, it seems unecessary, as quite a lot of threads incorporate both anyway, and they're generally rather tied to each other.

All 5 boards back? Yeah, thats not likely to happen.

But a total of three boards should be attainable.

Races/Monsters/Classes
Magic/Feats/Combat
People/Places/Events

Regardless of how it gets broken up, there's only two choices here.
Either accept that we're going to be stuck with only one mash up board for the rest of time, or drum up enough business for it to get split.

A relatively small number of people can do it alone, but the more that work at it, the better/faster it'll all go down. If you don't think it'll work, thats fine. Just go on like normal, because that'll still help our cause.

Definitely not a case of with us or against us, because the only way to be against us is to stop posting entirely.

I'd even like it if the 4th and 3rd edition boards were re-split. As someone in another thread said, once 4th edition Eberron is out, you won't have any idea when someone asks for help on something, if it's 4th or 3rd (as little as has been guaranteed to change, there will be things that do not cross over well IMO).

Also, this "cheating", I actually like. Honestly, it seems like it's put life into this board, and I know it's easier to answer a thread if someone else has some input too.

We're doing great guys, keep it up!
This thread over in community business is tallying the active thread counts for the forums to see which ones need splitting: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1034748

Just a reminder, no random bumping, no spamming. Everything needs to be official and by the books. We want "Damn, guess it does get enough traffic" as a response, not "They're just spamming, ignore it".

Post a lot, but make sure every post counts.
If the posts are spammy "Me too!" type posts, then they do more harm than good, as even a handful of those will make it look like they're all that way. Keep the topics real, and the replies meaningful!

Very... well thought out rebuttals.
Crunch/fluff would be toerable actually. So long as it's not something arbitrary and silly.

I think people are missing the point -> to keep traffic up and interest in Eberron high.

Casual Eberron people aren't going to come to boards where 5~10 dedicated people post enthusiastically on the same handful of threads.

Um, by their very nature, casual people wouldn't even realize its the same 5-10 people, because they're casual. They just drop in every once in a while. You have to stick around and actively read the boards for a while before you'd notice that.

http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=16027357&postcount=69

Despite the fact that both the Faerun and the Eberron boards are meeting and exceedingly his own criteria for splitting, he has no intention of doing so any time soon.

So, just another case of his "I'll say what everyone wants to hear, then go ahead and do what I want to anyway" management style.

I'm so glad to know we're in competant, caring hands. Aren't you?

It wouldn't do any good. Any criticism of Mike or his actions just gets merged in with a big trash complaint thread where it loses all context and just looks like mindless whining, and is then completely ignored.

I was wondering if you guys have considered forming an Eberron discussion group. Basically organize among yourselves a group to produce projects to keep the Eberron forums active. All it would take is one thread to nominate and claim topics for new threads. These new threads can contain a poster’s point of view of aspects of Eberron. I would call them ‘Eberron 101 Threads’. Introductions to the races, cities and cultures of Eberron for the new and less read board goers would be welcome. The group itself could even come up with new content such as covering the so far overlooked Planes of Eberron.

I know this is asking a bit much but I think doing this would at least produce more information then Wizards intends to produce for our preferred setting.

also Edymnion you sound like he does this sort of stuff often, or is that a wrong interprention? and if not, why did we belive him in the first place?

He does this constantly.
He will say whatever he thinks will make people go along with him for the moment, and then do whatever he likes. To the point of making a thread asking his own volunteer staff if doing something is a good idea, getting a unanimous "NO!" response, and then goes off and does it anyway.

As to why we believed him this time? Honestly, I was hoping we could get in on the deal before he changed his mind. I had hoped that if we could nail it right as he said it, he'd still feel like actually doing what he said.

Obviously not.
Even with impartial third parties (even the guy that is keeping the active thread count tallies) saying the boards should be split, he won't do it. He claims he wants to keep down the number of excess boards, and yet he makes a half dozen copies of the Rec Room.

Basically, he's mad as a hatter, and doesn't answer to anyone for his actions (he claims he does, but his superiors routinely ignore all complaints against him), so he does whatever he wants, everybody else be damned.

1001 threads have nothing to do with what I am talking about. I put 101 as in a College course numbering system. The threads were meant to be educational and creative not just random posters random thoughts. I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but why not create our own boards? I know that there are many free, adequate services out there that would allow us to have our own boards (www.takeforum.com is but one among many), and if anyone would be willing to contribute with a small sum, we could get an even better forum up and running. All it would take is for a few, willing individuals to be burdened with administration and organization, and the rest would basically be up to us posters.
I know that the level of quantity and quality wouldn't be nearly as high as on these boards but instead of a narrow-minded, insensitive, and dishonest WoTC-run forum, we'd have boards run by fellow posters. I know that it's a fairly naive idea, and it will probably be discarded unrealistic and impractical but the consider the alternative. While I share everyone's anger, it's ultimately futile and won't get us any results.

chosen=forum leads-->that is what I meant.

How do they get chosen?

The forum leads have absolutely no power or ability that "normal" posters don't also have. Basically, its nothing more than a fluff title, it has no real meaning.

The VCLs have actual extra power, but they don't work for WotC, they're all volunteers. Although, the vast majority of them are actually the civilian accounts of the WizO's, and those accounts are paid positions with WotC.

If you want to be a forum lead, you have to have actually been around long enough to be a more or less universally recognized name, and in good standing with the community. Then, you need to have someone else, also in good standing, recommend you for the position. Of course, there also has to be an open position in the first place.

If you want to be a VCL, thats pretty much not going to happen. Theoretically you could become one by being a forum lead for a while, and yadda yadda yadda, but like I said, almost every one of those positions were given to the paid employees that are off the clock.

So, bottom line, the only position you'd have any chance at actually getting is as an empty figurehead with no power or authority of any type, no real public recognition, little to no hope for advancement, or anything else that would make it desirable.

And yeah, I'm a forum lead. So, seriously, trust me, there is nothing special about it at all. Basically, the head of the boards, Gamer_Zer0 (real name is Mike, which you might see) wanted to make it look like the community had some kind of say in how the boards are run. So, he set up this big fancy looking volunteer lead thing, we talked in circles for a few months, some arbitrary unofficial titles were handed out, and any position of authority went to the status quo, and absolutely nothing changed.
