Hi guys,
I was hoping that someone could tell me where to find the rules on enhancing constructs? I’m making an iron defender and wanted to know who i can enhance its strength and armor AC. when imbuing a construct is it like crafting wondrous item to permanently add +x STR and things or do they have there own enhancement rules?

Or can i just strap a belt of giant strength on to it?

Hope this makes sense
Thanks much guys

As creatures, there are no set rules for this sort of thing. You can't just add X gold and give it ability Y, because there is no set rules on how to make a balanced creature in the first place. An Iron Defender thats 4 points stronger than normal would not have a magic strength boost, it would just plain be 4 points stronger, and would likely constitute a new monster entry. Just like if you gave one a breath weapon it would be a different monster than the default entry.

That said, there are easier ways to do what you're looking for.
Look in Magic of Eberron for the Improve Homonculus feat. It allows an Artificer to give their homunculi added abilities, such as increased stats, new attacks, or new special abilities based on their hitdice.

You could give an Iron Defender wings like an Expeditious Messenger, or give your Ethereal Filcher sneak attack damage, or increase strength, dexterity, AC, hitpoints, add energy damage to their attacks, or any number of other things, all for free.

You can, however, also just strap a belt(or collar) of giant strength to it, assuming thats the route you want to take, since it is a creature.

Thanks much guys, I plan on getting the improved humicolus feat and getting some magical gear for it to give it a little boost.

Two quick extra questions for you, I plan on trying to make my iron defender a good flanking creature but i would like to not have to worry so much about him getting one shot killed in the later game.

Can iron defenders wear armor and is there anything that I can do to improve his hit points? (Other than the improved humicolus feat)

Thanks much guys

Well there are rules right in the ECS for improving your Hommie's hit dice etc for more HP. You could also simply buff him as an artificer...
