Information on Creation Forges

Jun 09, 2009 10:46:13 Are there any books (preferably RPG, but novels will do) or Dungeon articles containing layout maps or detailed written descriptions of a creation forge? The only reference material I currently have is the 3.0 Eberron Campaign Setting and while The Forgotten Forge is great it does have the level of detail I am looking for.

Jun 09, 2009 13:38:00 My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I think both the Dreaming Dark trilogy and one of the short stories in Tales from the Last War had at least a scene in a creation forge. Both are by KB and have the same main characters.

Whispers of the Last War module is set in Whitehearth (the same place described in the short story above), though the mod doesn't map out the entire place.

The Forgotten Forge is great it does have the level of detail I am looking for.

The Forge in that adventure probably isn't a Creation Forge, just a regular forge.

I just re-reread The Forgotten Forge and you are probably right. It was most likely for making magic items, and even though the schema involved is of interest to Merrix d'Cannith because of some connection to the Lord of Blades the forge would have been for Warforged R&D at best. That is what I get for seeing "foundry" and "House Cannith" in the same sentence and jumping to conclusions. It is definitely not what I am looking for.

And thanks for the heads up on the novels, Arcane Guyver. I will be picking them up on my next trip to the book store. I could not find Whispers of the Last War, however. Did you mean Shadows of the Last War?

Suprisingly for me both this adventure and the Seekers of the Ashen Crown adventure seem to be perfect for my upcoming campaign. I'm quite interested to see whether the adventure in the ECG will be similarly useful.

If the ECG is anything like the FRCG (hopefully there will be some improvements) the plot hooks will be excellent. The ECG also has the advantage of no timeline advance, so there should be more room for detail. As much as I love it, I cannot use the FRCG without the 3.0 FRCS as a reference tool. The designers spent, by necessity, more time explaining what has changed than they did describing what is actually there. But WotC products keep getting better and better, and with something as major as a setting guide I am confident it will be excellent.

Hey, anything with creation forges involved = awesome for my group (I got a Warforged Artificer in my campaign who wants to "reproduce" like the other humanoids, and is always on the lookout for rumours of operational or semi-operational creation forges).

Sure, but will it be useful for my campaign? Through sheer luck Seekers of Ashen Crown along with the Forbidden Forge have not only been useful, but have helped seal up some plot-holes for me. What before might have seemed forced, has now become a natural progression. So I'm wondering if the ECG adventure will be similar or if it will largely be irrelevant (if its set in Aundair, it won't be much use to me). ;)
