I was thinking of media sources one could use for Daelkyr. One thing that came to mind was Saya no Uta, a Japanese visual novel/H-game.

The main character, Sakisaka Fuminori has survived a fatal car crash, but an operation has altered his perception of reality. All he sees is gore, guts and other disgusting things and that's just sight. He considers suicide when he meets Saya.

The villian protagonist Saya, is a Eldritch Abomination that has appeared on earth. While appearing like a very young girl in white, she's not what she seems. She seeks to find her "father", Professor Ougai. Because Saya is Fuminori's lifeline he agrees to help her.

Things start going downhill from there.

Spoilers for Saya no Uta

Saya is basically a sentient terraforming device. This can be seen in one of the ending scenarios. She even "blooms" before making all of earth's life mutate.

Heh, love can bloom...

I can't think of any particular media sources for the Daelkyr, other than Nyarlathotep of lovecraftian tradition.

But here's a good story of an inquisitive to get you in the mood.

The White Wolf vampire clan Tzimisce would be a good place to mine ideas for fleshcrafting especially the clan book.  Though I've heard if you can find the first edition clan book, its a lot more graphic.  And their Cathedral of Flesh would be great for a cult of the Dragon Below.

Hey Joni if you're played the game you know exactly how Saya "blooms" with local lifeforms... and it's definitely NSFW :P .

But yeah it's also good inspiration for twisted Daelkyr. Another is the wierd "Alien Cell" imagery from the Contra games. It's suitably organic and creepy ;) .

They remind of the Z'bri of Tribe 8. I like to make them very intense and passionate and less cold.  It's their intensity and lack of respect for/understanding of mortal sensibilities that make them repulsive, but also kind of alluring.
