| #2mattdmJun 02, 2008 9:19:47 | I can confirm that it's not true. Here's Keith Baker's blog entry on the subject: http://gloomforge.livejournal.com/8996.html In short, a player's guide, a campaign guide, and an adventure are slated for 2009. And as for what to do in the meantime: http://gloomforge.livejournal.com/6084.html |

| #4EdymnionJun 04, 2008 17:30:13 | Yeah, Eberron will still be here. It'll be rather stunted and won't have nearly as much support as it did in 3e, but it'll still be around. The only real consolation is that FR is getting the shaft just as much as we are. Not that I'm happy they're getting screwed, but at least it means Eberron isn't getting singled out. |
| #5mattdmJun 04, 2008 19:45:13 | Yeah, Eberron will still be here. Hmm. You really think WotC is going to pass on the opportunity to sell you 4E versions of basically all the same stuff? I don't think so. ![]() |

WotC has already flat out said that each campaign setting will get a setting book, a player's guide, and a module. Thats it. There are no plans to publish any more books than that for any setting, be it Eberron, Faerun, or Maztica. |

I thought they were going to consider additional books based on demand, but didn't want to commit to more than the first three (DM book, player book, and adventure module)? Not that I am going to go looking for a quote... |

That's all that's planned initially, but if sales are strong, there will be more. And there's "significant" support planned through DDI — which will lead to more books, if it's popular. |
| #9EdymnionJun 04, 2008 21:07:22 | I thought they were going to consider additional books based on demand, but didn't want to commit to more than the first three (DM book, player book, and adventure module)? Not that I am going to go looking for a quote... Yeah, thats what they say now. But considering the laundry list of examples of where they've just been telling us what we want to hear, I don't think it'll happen. At least not on any scale that would be worth mentioning. Setting specific books simply do not sell anywhere near as well as the generic Complete X books do. Thats the entire reason they've said they aren't going to be publishing nearly as many this time around. The odds of any Eberron book sales coming anywhere near the demand for a Complete X style book are next to zero, IMO. Hence, I honestly believe they are just blowing smoke so that the current userbase doesn't have a meltdown, and then later on when nothing happens they can still point back and claim there just wasn't any demand. And there's "significant" support planned through DDI — which will lead to more books, if it's popular. Yeah, which basically is, IMO, worthless to the game as a whole. IMO, if its not in a hardback, then its not something that is really useable in a game. "Wait a minute, I'll go to the computer and look that rule up" just doesn't cut it in the middle of a game. Combine that with the fact that they are making it impossible to get only the material you want without having to get a lot of material you don't want, and I just don't buy it (literally). If I want to buy Eberron material, then I want to buy Eberron material. I do not want to pay a monthly subscription to a service that spends more time talking generic and Faerun and all the other settings I'm not using than they do the one I am. Same basic reason I never gave a damn about Dragon magazine. Most of the stuff it printed was stuff I had no interest in, and no use for, and I didn't find it worth the subscription price for one or two articles a year that I thought were worth having. So, combine those and I don't think there is going to be anything in 4e Eberron worth having. We simply aren't going to get hardcopy books because no setting specific book will ever meet the demand of a generic line book, and what material we do get will be one little part of a subscription covering everything else in the game, if we want that other material or not. So yeah, I'll accept the way Eberron is going to be handled, when I can get a subscription to DDI for a fraction of the price to get only the Eberron material (if Eberron is 1/3 of all the information in DDI, then I'll be willing to pay 1/3 of the normal subscription fee for it), minus the costs I'll incur in ink and paper to print them out into a useable form. |

No, nothing so strong as "will". What has been said is that each year will focus on a new setting. Each setting will receive those three core products. Beyond that, they've said that if there's demand for more setting-specific products, they'll consider it - but nothing's set in stone. They haven't sworn a blood oath that they'll never publish another Eberron book. Nor have they promised "When sales numbers hit X copies, we start work on the next Eberron book." It's a wait and see situation. I hope that we will see more Eberron books in the future - but even if we do, don't expect a return to the sort of publishing schedule we've had in the past. |
