| #1AmbiguousMar 25, 2011 11:00:49 | I'm a bit confused at the moment by the "official" material on Kaius I's relationship to Kaius III. In Five Nations it mentions he's the great-grandfather of Kaius III, but in the ECG (4e) it says he's the grandfather of Kaius III. According to Five Nations the monarchs of Karrnath have been: Kaius I Kaius II Jaron Moranna (regent) Kaius III So it seems the great-grandfather story is more likely to hold. I just wonder why the change in the 4e book... Just a mistake? |

Was the original decision by Moranna to outlaw the Emerald Claw related to Kaius at all? Do we know when she was actually made a vampire herself? |

However, it probably needn't be said that the relationship between Kaius I and Kaius III is complicated, and if you need more explanation than that then I know I can't tell you any more than that. Ask your DM. |

I, II, III entitlements behind a ruler's name does not necessarilly mean father, son, grandson but rather that they are the first, second and third regeant with that name... If there is a discrepancy between one sourcebook and another (which happens way too often), I agree that the DM can tell you which source to use or if you're the DM, decide it.... remember official history means squat in your campaign- it is just a framework for the DM to launch from. |

Kaius was responsible for bringing the Blood of Vol and the Emerald Claw into prominence in Karrnath, and was turned into a vampire by minions of Vol herself (I believe in some sort of ritual). Feeling somewhat betrayed and horrified at what he had become he disappeared (not sure if it clarifies faking his own death or anything of that sort). For the majority of the last war, while Kaius the Second was in charge I believe the First was off somewhere learning to deal with his blood lust and take control of his (un)life again. By the time he returned to karrnath he had regained the regal presence of a king and arranged to replace Kaius the Third (there are numerous plothooks as to where the real Third actually is now). I do not know if there is specific mention of *when* Moranna was turned but her loyalty to Kaius and to Karrnath always seemed to be part of her character. |
