Fluff-wise, I'm drawing a lot on kalashtar/the Dreaming Dark/soulknives from 3.5. And I'm finding it daunting to design so many moves. So I'm asking for a little help brainstorming. What do you want to see a soulknife able to do? What were the really iconic things kalashtar soulknives were capable of? I'm also cross-posting this in homebrew for more ideas on the mechanical side. But here's a preview of what I'm coming up with: - Primary striker, secondary leader. Kalashtar founded the initial soulknife school, and their philosophy was that of il-Yana. Its disciples were expected to be compassionate and to lend aid to those in need. Still, the leader-ish powers are more inspired by the old atavist PrC and the racial substitution level that allowed kalashtar to exorcise possessing spirits with a strike. Soulknife powers would be like that and one-two punches: cutting soul as well as body opens up opportunities for allies to strike. Or the blow plants a psychic "grenade" of sorts that the soulknife can trigger when the foe is distracted by an ally's attack. Yes, I may be making Mind Seed a monk power. Secondary attack to dominate as an immediate reaction. I could give more details, but I'm saving that for a full write-up. Which needs more powers. A lot goes into fleshing out a new build, doesn't it? |
