#1 taylon_moonshadow Aug 05, 2008 20:42:09	I was reading about the rules for kalashtar names that are given in one of the eberron books, but what wasn't clear to me was surnames? I also couldn't tell if what the book was saying was the Kalashtar birth name or surname. What i found so far was . . . Names: Kalashtar names have much in common with the name of their people: they are three to five syllables long, with a combination of hard and hissing consonants. Male names end with one of the masculine name suffixes -harath, -khad, -melk, or -tash. Female names use the feminine suffixes -kashtai, -shana, -tari, or -vakri. Male Names: Halkhad, Kanatash, Lanamelk, Minharath, Nevitash, Parmelk, Thakakhad, Thinharath.
#2 Nived Aug 05, 2008 20:48:50	The suffixes are the names of the Quori spirit whose linage they are a part of so Takashtai and Lorikashtai's names are Ta and Lori, but they both have a part of Kashtai floating around in the back of their heads just beyond consciousness. The Quori spirits transmit along gender lines. If a male kalashtar and a female kalashtar have a daughter she has the mother's Quori spirit floating around in their heads. If a male kalashtar and a female kalashtar have a son he has the father's Quori spirit floating around in their heads. If a male human and a female kalashtar have a daughter she has the mother's Quori spirit floating around in their heads. If a male human and a female kalashtar have a son he'll just be human. If a male kalashtar and a female human have a daugher she'll just be human. If a male kalashtar and a female human have a son he has the father's Quori spirit floating around in their heads.

#4 Nived Aug 05, 2008 21:19:06	There are I think (I can't remember the exact number but the two numbers added together followed the Baker's Dozen rule of Eberron) 49 rebel Quori that escaped Dal Quor and bound themselves to the Adar monks. One, the leader (whose name I forget), had her entire line hunted down to extinction by the inspired... leaving 48 individual Kalashtar lines. Mind you its been 1800 years the Kalashtar have been around, the lines are really deluded and any one Kalashtar line might have hundreds of living members... makes the rebel quori really damn hard to kill, though that does nothing for the individual host who (unlike the Inspired) is their own person. So don't feel limited by those eight suffixes, they were just examples.

"La-ka-shti" has the same sort of sound as "Ka-la-shtar", in the same way "Her-man" sounds like "Hu-man". (And "Hank" doesn't.) Also, there were 67 rebel quori spirits, but their leader gave her spirit to the defense of Adar, so now there are 66 quori names used to form Kalashtar names.
