I'm concentrating on Martial Arts, notably Karnnathi Martial Arts. Without the D&D book on War (Heroes of Conflict???), I'm using Unearthed Arcana to develop the martial arts for Karnnath.

Here is what I came up with for Swordsmanship:

KARNATHI SWORDSMANSHIP

Students of Karnnathi Swordsmanship learn the basics of using the sword. This style is the most popular taught at Rekkenmark Academy. It is also nearly universal. As in, there are about 2,000 different schools spread about Karnnath on Swordsmanship alone: each teaching a different aspect (tactical feats and so forth). There are several other schools on this style spread through out Khorvaire.
1st level Skill Bonus: Intimidate
1st level Feat: Power Attack
2nd Level Feat: Combat Expertise
6th Level Feat: Improved Feint

Any ideas about a 6th level bonus ability?

Other major styles include:

Karnnathi Arte of Defence (Karnnathi Fencing)
Karnnathi Swordplay (off shoot of Arte of Defence)
Karnnathi Shieldbreaking (Axe Style employed by Zombies)
Karnathi Arte of Force (Style revolving around the Cleave and Great Cleave feats)
Deneith Swordsmanship
Deneith Swordplay
Deneith Arte of Overwhelming Force

I once made a post, ages back, concerning Karrnath martial traditions. Rekkenmark is known for its swordsmanship, this is true, but we must also consider the Emerald Claw and the Iron Band (from the novel Bound by Iron) which both were considered elite units that were known for commonly employing flails.

Considering Karrnath's tactical culture I gave most Karrnathi warriors and what not back in 3.5 Combat Expertise as their first feat, usually followed up with Improved Disarm (if they fought with a sword) or Improved Trip (if they fought with a flail, of both if they were high enough level with the flail.)

Ah so that was you, i loved that idea when it was mentioned the first time. And it makes so much sence for them when one thinks about it.

If it's a monk style, it should be called The Way of splintered bone, or something like that. You know, something to sound intimidating and reference undead.

The only reason i am doing this is because i don't want the greater minds at WotC to merge Eberron to one forum again but don't you think this is out side of the realm of "Lore" and is more suited to Eberron: Running Eberron

Otherwise, i have forsaken 3.5 but otherwise i would say that most Karrnathi Fighters don't really scream at me the same thing is it to you... if i wanted to give them more "flavor" to their years of skilled combat training i would be looking more to the Tome of Battle: The Book of Nine Swords. But thats just me, I much rather personally keep Monk and anything "monkish" to The Inspired and Kalashtar.

not saying that any other race can't be a monk though, just saying that i don't think Karrnathi Schools would really modify it outside of what is presented in the core.

google tells me its French style boxing with martial art influence... Your Point? Karnnath isn't French, This is Eberron, not the real world.

Martial Arts in Eberron are focused around the Inspired and Kalashtar... to assume that a school is teaching a mixture of the two forms would assume that Karnnathi Fighting Experts were aware of the Inspired and Kalashtar style of flighting and in the middle of a massive large scale war which saw Karnnath on its back after many devastating military and cultural events. In my opinion to say that they were able to come up with a special school of martial arts is kind of stretching the willingness to go back on tradition in a country that holds its self to a high belief of the true heirs.

Now, if you wish to do such a thing, its with in your right but i wouldn't, so i can't give advice... i am just saying that it seems like something that goes against the style of a people. but again this is just my opinion.

and i would suggest starting new threads like this in the right forum so that you can get better suggestions. : ] we have them, use them.

Martial Arts does not equal 'Kung Fu' or Eastern style traditions. Martial art is any kind of fighting style. Boxing is a Martial Art, Israeli Krav Maga is a martial art, MCMAP (Marine Corps Martial Arts Program) is (clearly) a martial art.

Any codified system of killing someone, or beating the ever living crap out of them is a martial art.

So by definition, if Rekkenmark teaches its own style of sword fighting... it is a martial art.

Besides the monk feats in the Eberron Campaign setting have nothing to do with Kalashtar or the Inspired. Rather they are specifically styles for monks of the Sovereign Host, clearly Khorvaire in nature, and novels like Orb of Xor'iat have shown us martial artist monks in Aundair.

Flensing Strike and Whirling Strike are specifically written for monks of the Mockery and Dol Dorn, and have nothing to do with Sarlona.

Thank you, Nived.

Nived is correct. Any codified system of killing another human being, or beating the living daylights out of him is a martial art. So, if the Rekkenmark Academy teaches different codified systems; they are teaching different martial arts. They also teach military history and other subjects related to the military.

If you look closely, Martial Arts include Capriosita (a native Brazilian art influenced by African Dance), Boxing, Wrestling, Pankration (Greek for "No Holds Barred" one of the most dangerous arts resurrected), the Arte of Defence (European Fencing), European Swordsmanship (which includes intensive unarmed training, has everything to do with the Germanic Tribes and nothing to do with Tibet; also resurrected); Roman Legionary Training, Roman Gladiatorial Combat (both were trained differently) -- I could go on and on with examples on how humans developed systems on how to kill one another.

Why should the humans of Eberron be any different?
