If you're my players don't read this thread

I'm sure all of you already have your own Eberron games going on and know a lot more about Eberron then I do, but I thought I'd mention I'm starting one myself. Here's the info.

If anyone's interested, I've got a blog post up about our first game, although it does have spoilers for Keep on the Shadowfell. A summary of it is: I had a lot of fun, although the battle did go a bit long. And I'm looking forward to writing up some possible events and tweaks to the adventure based on what my players have done.

My DM is running us through KOTS. We just got done with Irontooth last week. Out of 4 of us that showed up (the rog didn't make it so his PC was laid up in bed and we had the missing rangers sheet so we used him anyway:P ) we had 5 pcs.

Only 2 were left standing for that fight. My dwarf wiz went down at the end, the dwarf pally went down in the middle with 2 Lay Ons left ( ) and the bugbear ranger went down in the end. The only two left to combat Irontooth and his two kobolds were the Dragonborn fighter and the tiefling warlord. Oi vey. All our downed guys made their Death Checks though. Beware that is a very tough fight. We used our heads alot more than in past fights and cleared out the encounters before Tooth and short rested as well. Thank god The DM rolled poorly for Irontooth, his goons did more pain to us than the man himself.

The tough part was one of the little SOBs got away to warn the others in the Keep and he stole some of the treasure to boot!!!

In 2 weeks it is off to the Keep. I am guessing undead, cultists and maybe demons. I just took a level of Cleric so that we could have some extra healing if I am out of useful things to do plus I have discovered the Silver Flame and want to make sure the world is safe from the Cult of Orcus!

Indeed. I am extremely interested to see how my players handle it, given how hard it seems and also all the reports of TPKs I've heard in KotS. Interesting to hear about another team's experience with it, thanks

I have heard people making it with the skin of their teeth at my LGS. Basically just like my group did. Online I have read about near TPKs with 2 players dying. Damn Orcus and his evil schemes!!!

My pc changed from good to evil when we killed off the elf hunter who was following us after we were "Bragging" about the Rib. We wanted to see who would follow us out to the place we were going to bury it. Then wait and see who showed up to get it from its spot. The hunter followed us the whole time and we got the jump on her. She did not yield and told us even after we had killed off countless kobolds she didn't "trust "us and we were shady. Then she tried to escape after we told her to yield. We wanted to knock her out but the DM said my Cloud of Daggers killed her. We both admitted afterwards that by 4E rules my spell would have just knocked her out like I wanted but I think he just wanted her dead and did not like that we attacked her. I busted his chops for it with jokes but used it for some roleplaying fun by having my guy take a darker note from now on. He will do anything to see justice done. He will stop anyone who gets in his way at stopping the forces of evil. He is like the Punisher but with a more heroic attitude.

I've also got a blog of my KOTS campaign. We've played through one session and will play the second today. Feedback is most welcome.

Interesting changes I like how the main events remain the same, but the details differ. Although I'm curious why you had the kobolds leave the waterfall? The book says they don't leave except when chasing a party. Had they not left, the players would have been able to take a short rest.

Also how long did you play for? Because you're at least 1 session further on then I am, possibly 2 sessions.

I just ran my party through the kobold lair tonight. I even warned them ahead of time about this encounter and how people were complaining online, tpks, etc. I even told them it was level six. I never do this, but we wanted to see how it would play because we're trying out 4e and this product. I gave them an extended rest for free after taking out the outside people. So, they went in knowing it was level six, that it had tpked several groups, and they were fully rested/refreshed. Party was minotaur fighter, githyanki star pact warlock, githyanki rogue, elf ranger, and dwarf cleric. All of them burned all their dailies and encounters. They all used their action points and second winds. Result: fighter and rogue dead, all three others bloodied, and they barely pulled of a victory. If I had not told them about the encounter ahead of time it most likely would have been a tpk and I'm sure they would have never wanted me to DM again, in fact, they confirmed this.

Ouch! I've got a few ways for the players to decrease the difficulty of this encounter before it begins, but we'll have to wait and see if they do them.

I just did a trial run on A2 and A3 using my player's character sheets. My Warforged Paladin was able to keep Irontooth out of the fight for most of it (and with him having poor roles my Warforged was quite safe). However as people around him died despite his and the Warlord's best efforts, the Warforged also started taking damage. He eventually died and so Irontooth was able to move onto the last surviving player.

I'm asking for advice on this thread on what to do. Because in all likelihood my players are going to face A3 in either the next game or the one after it. And as it stands, unless they are VERY clever, this will be a TPK.

I've updated my blog with notes on today's session if anyone is interested. I included some comments on openRPG. Although I'm surprised to say using it didn't speed up our combat. Although it did allow my players to be much more tactical in their moving and they shifted quite frequently (whereas last game there was no shifting).

Last time I'll post in here. I've updated my blog where it says my player's have managed to find a massive flaw in the Eberron conversion of KotS.

I saw it coming, but I thought I'd be able to bluff my way around it. But I failed the roll and so my players exploited the flaw. They've managed to stop the BBEG from doing his ritual and so now they don't need to go to the Keep at all. So after they finish Kobold Lair (and I am now thankful that it has such a hard encounter level because it'll make the end fight fun ;)), we'll move on to some of my home brew adventures :D
