| #1DargurdAug 22, 2008 1:35:01 | Hi All, Does anyone know to any good info on Lakeside in Karrnath ? Im going to be using the town and Lake Dark as the start point for my campaign and before i start writing up info I just thought id see if anyone else already knows to anything I can make use of. Thanks. |

Emerald Claw members all around Khorvaire are collecting Khyber shards for this "Plan Leviathan". It might be a bound rajah, others on the forums have thought it might be the location of the Tarrasque. |

I was planning on starting the campaign with the characters on a boat crossing Lake Dark. The mists roll across the Lake as the night draws in....huge rotting tentacles lash up from the water attacking those on the deck (some new undead creature im working on) - welcome to Eberron, welcome to 4th edition lets all see how the combat rules work and get on with Roleplaying ! |
| #4mystrichAug 22, 2008 2:09:15 | Perhaps a minion of Vol put there to make sure no one finds out about her little project. |

I shall add that into the description. Interestingly im off on my vacation tomorrow and im staying in a cottage next to a lake in the mountains - that should help me write up some atmospheric notes... |

Does anyone know to any good info on Lakeside in Karrnath ? I've got some homebrewed information for the town: ![]()
In my game the north road heads to Winterhaven. However you can have it head to some abandoned ruins, some farms, or just not even the road in your game. |
| #7GiloAug 22, 2008 6:39:27 | Here is some painting I noticed it in Deviantart, the artist wrote: "Supposedly a lonely village somewhere in southern Karrnath, not far from the ashgray mists of former Cyre's borders." So its not Lakeside but it still gives a nice Karrnath town theme (maybe usable for Winterhaven). |
| #8DargurdAug 22, 2008 7:40:13 | Thanks John & Gilo both of your posts are extremely useful. I will also do a map of Lakeside using CC3 when i return from vacation and post it for others to use. |
| #9mystrichAug 22, 2008 17:40:37 | Say WHAT!? What book does it say all this? Five Nations under the section for plot hooks in Karrnath. It mentions "Operation Leviathan", where Vol has ordered all members across Khorvaire to get Khyber shards so she can bind and control the beast under Lake Dark. The Order is gathering hundreds of Khyber dragonshards to draw forth from Lake |
| #10rekkoAug 22, 2008 19:26:24 | I think Five Nations also speaks of a Dolurrh manifest zone in Lake Dark or near it. Lakeside is an interesting region. It's close to the Icewoods, and the legend of the Madstone. It's between Icetop Mountains and Lake Dark. A bit south there's the Talenta Plains and that dragon graveyard. Ironroot Mountains and the Mror Holds aren't very far East. Korunda's Gate (gateway to the world under the Ironroot Mountains, long guarded by the Kundarak Clan) is quite close and troubles over there could have issues reaching to Lakeside. What plot do you want to use? Operaton Leviathan or something else? And how do you think your PCs will be involved? Rekko |
| #11JohnLynchAug 22, 2008 22:18:16 | Well in my Eberron (because I don't own the Five Nations book) some Karnnathi Warforged had escaped with the aid of a wizard (Enius in fact) and retreated into Khyber. After a few weeks they find a tunnel which lead up to some ruins on an island in Lake Dark. These ruins had been where Vol and the Karrnathi mages and worked to perfect the Karrnathi zombie rituals and was abandoned shortly after. Using the teleport ritual which they learned from Enius, the Karrnathi Warforged were travelling around Khorvaire to secretly gather Warforged into their new city. My players were SUPPOSE to go there next. Instead they went and got captured and then I killed them ![]() |

| #13DargurdAug 22, 2008 23:48:30 | What plot do you want to use? Operaton Leviathan or something else? And how do you think your PCs will be involved? Im thinking Leviathan does sound like a great plot. I will probably skirt around its edges for a while though doing a few other plotlines in and around the Icetops as well as the edges of the Lake. Ive created a map of the region (see this post) http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1077213 which i intend to make use of to launch my new 4e game. A lot of the PC involvement will start from their character backgrounds, once I have them I start to write the overarching campaign. I intend to start them on a boat crossing the Lake and heading into Lakeside but i also want to use the H1/H2 scenarios that have been produced and ive mapped them and some of the areas within Nentir Vale into my Icetop Map. |
| #14melchizedekAug 23, 2008 21:22:10 | Hi, just wanted to point out that Secrets of Xendrik pretty clearly suggests that the Tarrasque is held in hibernation beneath the bay separating Xendrik from Everice. Personally, I'd stick with something more in keeping with the "Leviathan" theme. Maybe an actual sea monster, or possibly more of a Lovecraftian "madness from the sea" type thing. |
| #15mystrichAug 23, 2008 21:37:44 | The thing is, it's not living in the lake. It's something sealed in that spot that the lake formed or was put over. If the goblins sealed the Tarrasque/a Daelkyr/some other monster, well, their magic was different than current magic. Perhaps they didn't have a spell like water breathing, and so to them, if a lake was put on top of the seal, it would make it a practically perfect fortress, one that couldn't be destroyed by any amount of fighting. Or if a Rajah, the lake might have formed naturally over a crevice into Khyber or a dragonshard it's bound in. The Dragons might have put it over it as well, seeing it as a way to protect the area from all but the most powerful. A dragon in disguise is stationed there, and makes sure to call rain and keep the lake permanently filled and is one watch for anyone who could bypass this first defense. |
| #16GiloAug 24, 2008 7:08:03 | A dragon in disguise is stationed there, and makes sure to call rain and keep the lake permanently filled and is one watch for anyone who could bypass this first defense. Interesting, as one of the side-hooks for my version of "Keep on the Shadowfell": the PC observe an old female Dragonborn shaman doing some kind of augury/speak with the dead ritual - conjuring from the lake's fog [night time at Lake Dark near Lakeside] an image of a Dragon which said: "Those who seek there power in death, disrupt my resting place in the earth, when time of shadows to increase in length we should halt there return from the depths." I was thinking of making the shaman a disguised dragon or an agent of the Chamber (or both). BTW: Do dead Dragons spirits go to Dolurrh too? |
| #17mystrichAug 24, 2008 8:12:05 | I would assume they do, unless they enacted a powerful magic to protect their soul for whatever reason. They know the planes better than any other living creature, and don't like messing with the planes. Remember what happened when the giants used their magic to mess with the planes? They don't like it when magic alters what was supposed to be. And it looks like the plot hook is just falling into place, which always makes an Eberron game better, because it means all the more plot twists later. |
