All of the PCs will have been involved in the battles between Karrnath and Cyre in 994 - just before the Mourning. One of the players wants a changeling prostitute-turned-battle medic with a hate-on for the Karrns; the idea being her child had been killed and/or kidnapped and her 'home' or town razed by the Karrns, so she had joined the Cyran military for revenge. I've done some research with Forge of War on the Karrn/Cyran conflicts in the north, but late-war they seem to have mostly been Cyran invasions. The closest thing I can find revolves around Fort Bones, and that seems like it might not be what I'm looking for. My question, then; to what level would raiding parties go into one of the countries from another? Specifically, how common would Karrn raids into Cyre have been between 980 and 990 (which would give the child enough time to grow up and be a possible NPC ca. 998)? I mean, I can just SAY that happened, but I'm trying to make the campaign as 'canonical' as possible. If I had the campaign set during the war, Metrol'd be where it's at, but afterwards? Not so much. Especially considering the character'd have to be 85+ for that to work... Fine for an elf, not so much for a changeling. |

Lately, we've been discussing a Last War where there are a few large-scale battles, but the rest of the time, its simmering skirmishing, raiding, and patrolling. Seeing as how supply and sanitation are far more advanced than in our world (due to the proficiency of Orien and Jorasco and Ghallandra, respectivly), armies could amass and sit around, and thoroughly raid/patrol the area they're in. Simply put, its more than feasible for there to be raiding/patrols, and I don't see how this would affect anything canonically. Is there a specific issue that is getting you? |

And Cyre and Karrnath were never really ever at peace over the war after Metrol, now that I stop to think about it. I'll probably suggest she be from Swoz or Dollen on the River. The Cyre river would probably hinder invasions in that area, but a raiding party that went in for an extended period wouldn't necessarily have that difficulty. Thanks! |

Granted, Vietnam was completely different from the Last War, but Last War riverine patrols could be equally as nasty. 2.) Some sort of specilized raiding group could be set up as a sort of nemesis for the character. Their SOP would be something like cross the river during dark, patrol, raid, and ambush on the Cyrean side, and then retreat back accross the river. For bonus points, you can make them a branch (either covert or overt) of the Emerald Claw. |
