#1 Tempest_Stormwind Jul 16, 2015 10:55:58	So, I have a rather challenging character coming up, and I think I've sorted most of it out, but I'm still looking for resources.   Briefly, and omitting some details, the character was a Warning Guild agent, specializing in infiltrating and embedding herself in organizations of interest - a long-term way of gathering intelligence, similar to international spying if it were done by a nation, but focusing here on criminal or anti-royalist organizations. However, this was in 890 YK, under King Jarot. One of her missions involved getting embedded in a feyspire on Thelanis - and that mission went south, winding up getting stranded there for some time before the spires were suddenly wrenched back to Eberron on the Day of Mourning. I have a lot more to it than this, but that's the key point, and I don't want to spoil some aspects of the story for my fellow players. (The game will take place in Lhazaar, which hasn't drifted too far culturally from where it was prior to the war, so blending in isn't going to be too hard.)   Nutshell: I have a character who accidentally "skipped" the entire Last War and, indeed, the entire time the war happened (15 years on Thelanis is 105 years on Eberron), who is unfamiliar with present-day Eberron but more familiar with that of a century ago. I'm having a hard time coming up with some appropriate behaviour for this. I've managed as best I can to get the psychology correct (I always work in some aspects of post-war psychology into my Eberron characters, but this one, I work around it, for instance), but it's the historical details that are hard to come by.   I've read through the Grand History of Eberron, which is a wonderful resource - but most of its stuff on the war comes from the.... notorious.... Forge of War book, and its information on life under Jarot is sparse, largely bringing up dates as they relate to 998 YK (i.e. "the lightning rail network was completed this year") and rarely reflect the culture of the time. The most detailed stuff I can find relates to the lycanthropic purge, which was winding down around 880 YK, and there's precious little in there about social attitudes of the time, particularly those outside the Flame religion, Aundair, and Thrane.   Are there any resources about "day in the life" culture or the geopolitics of pre-War late Galifar out there? Or even notes on things that have changed in the last hundred-or-so years in Khorvaire? I'm cribbing ideas from lots of similar places, but I'm wondering if there's a resource specific to Eberron that I missed. My knowledge of what's out there is far from encyclopedic.   If there aren't any resources out there, I'm welcome to speculation as to what life in late 9th-century Eberron would have been like.   Thanks for any help.
#2 Beoric Jul 16, 2015 16:51:30	I think the best you will find are snippets here and there, and you are really in the realm of spculation.  I thin your best bet is to pull everything you can from the Cyre entry in Five Nations, and think about what an (outwardly) unified nation would look like with Cyre in it.    Some of the obvious things:   - Travel is easier, both across borders, and across the area that would become the Mournland - No airships.  However, the continent seems smaller, since lightning rail connects the Nations together - Consequently, more people have seen other Nations, and they speak positively of them - Much more human-centric:      - No warforged      - Gobliniods are more marginalized, since this is pre-reliance on goblinoid mercenaries, which both makes them more visible and gave them legitimate incomes      - Less dwarven pride.  Mror is still just a region, and the Nations are not in debt to Kundarak      - No urban monsters, as this is pre-Droaam and Daask      - No Valenar      - No Zilargo      - No Darguun - Prejudices tend to be racial rather than national - Dragonmarked Houses have less influence, as they would be kept in check by a central monarchy - No Thuranni.  Phiarlan really are mostly entertainers - No Emerald Claw.  Blood of Vol more of a marginal religion - Focus on external threats, but after 900 years of unity, generally more of a feeling of security
