Make a Destiny Truly "Epic"

Jun 09, 2011 13:44:55 I'm currently running an Eberron campaign, and I'm working on coming up with some really good sideplots to guide my characters into their epic destinies. I want them to really embrace them as part of the story, and feel like they're important in the world. My best work so far is the dwarf paladin who will discover that his Iron Ring of the Dwarf Lords is actually a shrunken artifact, called the Iron Crown of the Dwarf Emperors, and he'll claim his place as the Emperor of the Mror Holds (Legendary Sovereign destiny). I also have a Deva who will end up as a star, serving in the court of Dol Arrah (Radiant One destiny) and a half-elf who is basically the center of the whole dang Draconic Prophecy.

My question is this: What kind of place in the world of Eberron is there for a Drow Rogue who grew up as a pirate in Lhaazar? The player is already a little unincluded because of the lack of uses for stealth & thievery so far (working on it), but I really can't come up with anything fantastic for him.

I would also appreciate input on where a shifter cleric of Balinor might find her calling but I think I could get that one worked out on my own.

Well, there's always "uniting the Princes under your banner" sort of destiny, that's always fun. What rogue wouldn't want to be High Prince of Pirates?

Or, for truly epic, this drow could somehow unite both the Lhazaar Principalities and the drow tribes of Xendrik for a new trans-oceanic league.

Or, the drow could become the rogue, the ruler of international blackmarketeering and thievery.

You mention a lack of uses for stealth and thievery so far-- can you clarify? Do you mean you lack epic challenges for those skills, or that they just haven't been a big part of the story?

I think a big part of the "epic" feel is that what the characters do becomes groundbreaking and trendsetting. Are there other drow flocking to the Lhazaar Principalities to emulate this rogue character? Are the Mror clans considering redrawing their family trees around your dwarf paladin?

Maybe this Drow discover his Umbragen family ties, his epic destiny could be to destroy the Daelkyr lord that threatens the Umbragen in Khyber (GodHunter ED). He could unite with Umbra in the process (Darklord ED) or free the Umbragen from their dependency on Umbra and lead them back to the surface (Redeemed Drow ED). Maybe he leads a fleet of pirate ships into Khyber to do it.

He could get exposed to this destiny while helping his dwarf friend clear the Daelkyr threats in the Mror Hold's kingdom below.
