| #1lord_tirianJul 08, 2008 12:18:23 | I had a bit too much time at my hands (not really) and decided to redo the Eberron map. Why?
It's not finished (needs a lot of roughwork and then fine-tuning has to begin) and I probably will not put labels on the map (this means I'll do, but probably for my Eberron +10 years, which will change it)... but take a look, guys! |
| #2euangelionJul 08, 2008 13:16:53 | Very nice! It's has a nice feel, and it's accurate. I especially like the dull grey-ness of the Mournland. |
| #3lord_tirianJul 08, 2008 13:33:04 | Very nice! It's has a nice feel, and it's accurate. I especially like the dull grey-ness of the Mournland. Well, it should accurate, as I used the original map as base to get the shapes! ;) Cheers, LT. |
| #4AmarilJul 08, 2008 14:41:30 | :OMG! ![]() *ahem* I mean... It's OK. ;) Honestly, this is one of the best maps I've seen. Got a hi-res version? Also, are you considering doing one for each of the other continents? I'd love to see one pasted together for the entire globe. If you did the other continents, we could then layer them over the world map. |
| #5PhobosJul 08, 2008 14:52:53 | I like it for many reasons, but one of the most is it does not have all the roads, cities and what not identified on it. I have the other one printed out and laminated on my wall, it is perhasp 22x34, I don't recall. But I often draw on it with dry erase. Do you have a, or do you plan to produce a, poster size? |
| #6shamurai7Jul 08, 2008 15:21:27 | absolutely awesome... so make a high res for us, and do the global map and i will be ecstatic! if you do the glode then i will do you the honor of using it in my actual games... |
| #7lord_tirianJul 08, 2008 16:43:59 | I like it for many reasons, but one of the most is it does not have all the roads, cities and what not identified on it. Well, as said above, it's more probable that you guys see a non-labelled map than a labelled one... plus labelling is no fun! ;) Do you have a, or do you plan to produce a, poster size? Also yes (it's 4800x2964) - but getting the high-res looking good will be eating my time - I'm *very* unhappy with the forest textures right now (though I think that the mountains look a bit better in the close up). For the globe and map of other continents: Not planning that now - I have to get this one done first (that's why I'm posting it here - motivation to get it done!). Plus Xen'drik looks boring - too much jungle! ;) Cheers, LT. |
| #8euangelionJul 08, 2008 17:02:09 | Well, it should accurate, as I used the original map as base to get the shapes! ;) Heh, I've seen plenty of inaccurate maps based on an accurate original. Again, really excellent work. I really appreciate your attention to detail. |
| #9AmarilJul 08, 2008 17:02:28 | Also yes (it's 4800x2964) - but getting the high-res looking good will be eating my time - I'm *very* unhappy with the forest textures right now (though I think that the mountains look a bit better in the close up). You could always create a texture from some satellite photos in Google Maps/Earth. For the globe and map of other continents: Not planning that now - I have to get this one done first (that's why I'm posting it here - motivation to get it done!). Plus Xen'drik looks boring - too much jungle! ;) Have you seen the entire continent of Xen'drik?! |
| #10lord_tirianJul 08, 2008 17:41:17 | Have you seen the entire continent of Xen'drik?! You mean this map from SoX? If you mean that one: Yeah, there *is* detail... but I just find Khorvaire and Sarlona so much more interesting (and if I map other continents, I'd start with Sarlona). Cheers, LT. |
| #11AmarilJul 08, 2008 18:00:43 | You mean this map from SoX? If you mean that one: Yeah, there *is* detail... but I just find Khorvaire and Sarlona so much more interesting (and if I map other continents, I'd start with Sarlona). Fair enough. Argonnessen isn't too shabby either. ;) I actually like the map of Sarlona the best. Too bad they never published a poster map for that continent. It's almost like a second campaign setting. |
| #12JohnLynchJul 09, 2008 1:55:12 | This is perfect! This gives us the chance to create maps from various ages (including before the Last War, before Galifar and in future ages we might run). While its not perfect for this purpose, its much better then what we previously had. |
| #13lord_tirianJul 09, 2008 5:50:33 | Okay, I've done a lot on the map. I reckon that it's almost finished (besides labelling). Take a look: |
| #14grifoJul 09, 2008 6:15:37 | Wow. Well done. This is definitely one of the better maps I've seen. Very realistic. Maybe you could make the cliffs a bit less thick (Forgot the word). They just don't fit the rest of the map. |
| #15PhobosJul 09, 2008 7:07:24 | Just quick observation on the map, the top right corner, some of the islands. Are they not snow and ice covered?![]() |
| #16PJammaGodJul 09, 2008 7:13:15 | Hey what program did you use to build the map Lord Tirian? Looks like CC2 but I could be just guessing. And great map btw, very detailed (just needs some civilisation to make it complete, or lack thereof in the Shadow Marches). PJ the cartographer |
| #17lord_tirianJul 09, 2008 8:34:38 | Maybe you could make the cliffs a bit less thick (Forgot the word). They just don't fit the rest of the map. True - I'm toning them down a bit. Just quick observation on the map, the top right corner, some of the islands. Are they not snow and ice covered? Snow? Ice? I'm gonna make some new textures! *shakes fist* ;) Hey what program did you use to build the map Lord Tirian? Looks like CC2 but I could be just guessing. And great map btw, very detailed (just needs some civilisation to make it complete, or lack thereof in the Shadow Marches). I've used Photoshop CS2. And I'm dreading making the civilisation - too many cities, too much to type! :P Cheers, LT. |
| #18missekatJul 09, 2008 9:40:31 | Wauw! That is absolutely awesome! I'm SO going to get that printed and laminated for my players! (I you don't mind.. that is). |
| #19AmarilJul 09, 2008 11:03:46 | I love the volcanoes! |
| #20JohnLynchJul 09, 2008 11:45:15 | I love the volcanoes! Are those cannon? |
| #21AmarilJul 09, 2008 11:50:11 | Are those cannon? No, they're volcanoes! Kidding. Yes, see Lake of Fire, [unnamed near Ashtakala] and Fist of Onatar. |
| #22JohnLynchJul 09, 2008 20:38:54 | No, they're volcanoes! Thanks :D I didn't know there were volcanoes outside of the Demon Wastes! |
| #23revvecorJul 09, 2008 23:16:22 | Actually there is another one that Haka'torvhak is built into the side of although it is not shown on this map. |
| #24lord_tirianJul 10, 2008 7:48:21 | Actually there is another one that Haka'torvhak is built into the side of although it is not shown on this map. Oooh! Shiny find! I'm going to include that into my map! ![]() Cheers, LT. |
| #25douglas_zuver_dupJul 10, 2008 10:34:07 | Wow, really nice!!! Since this is an Eberron Map thread, here is a map that I made for my Eberron Game: (Be aware that the lightning rail has eastern additions joining it to Whitcliff from what was there due to my game fluff.) Link to Big Detailed Map of Khorvaire including Lightning Rail System Click on the picture to change the map size from smaller to bigger. Solid Orange Lines are Country boundaries. Solid Grey Lines are roads. Dotted Purple Lines are Lightning Rail Tracks. Black and White Stars are Capitals. Black and White Circles are cities. Black and White Triangles are towns. Black and White 'Houses' are castles and forts. Black and White 'Flames' are ruins. |
| #26shamurai7Jul 10, 2008 13:16:11 | wow still impressed by the work, and glad your tweaking it a bit for more accuracy.....once your high res version is up ill get it printed at kinkos and use it.....if you could make 2 high res versions 1 with labels and 1 without labels that would be awesome. |
| #27mcewans_dupJul 12, 2008 7:06:01 | Wow!!! Great map, love it, well done. |
| #28factol_rhys_dupJul 12, 2008 15:21:36 | Awesome. It looks like the continent viewed from space. Which I love even more, since I think it's awesome that you can see the awfulness of the Demon Wastes from miles up. With this much photo-realism in it, though, I would make the forest areas less bumpy. We don't need to see the tree texture. |
| #29lord_tirianJul 15, 2008 10:03:25 | Oops, I totally forgot to upload the high-res version, sorry - busy weekend (hence no labelled version, all these labels take some time). Here is the big map! With this much photo-realism in it, though, I would make the forest areas less bumpy. We don't need to see the tree texture. I originally wanted to - but it looked boring - the texture I use now is a composite of just green noise and actual forests (thanks to Google Earth). A more realistic version would also have much, much thinner rivers (at least according to the current scale of the map, with is screwy - the drawn map wasn't drawn for that scale!)... and in the end, I settled for "artistic representation", not "satellite photo", simply because the former is more likely to get a good response at the table! ;) I, of course, keep working on it, so that's by no means the final version (simply because in the process of labelling, I may discover stupid stuff I may have done). Cheers, LT. |
| #30euangelionJul 15, 2008 10:42:59 | Trying not to be too picky, but failing my Will check... How would it look with a little snow/ice at the top of the taller mountain ranges? Would it look natural or not? |
| #31lord_tirianJul 15, 2008 13:54:33 | Trying not to be too picky, but failing my Will check... You mean Will defence! :P How would it look with a little snow/ice at the top of the taller mountain ranges? Would it look natural or not? That's a good suggestion - I have to try it out. As said above, I'm not having that much time right now, so it probably has to wait a week - but I'll try it, especially for the Mror Holds, they sort of need it, thematically. Cheers, LT. |
| #32euangelionJul 15, 2008 22:28:18 | You mean Will defence! :P I know, but no one was attacking me, so I didn't know what else to say. I'm so confused!! That's a good suggestion - I have to try it out. As said above, I'm not having that much time right now, so it probably has to wait a week - but I'll try it, especially for the Mror Holds, they sort of need it, thematically. "I'd just like to wish you good luck; we're all counting on you." |
| #33finlosJul 18, 2008 0:18:49 | A very well done map! I downloaded it and will use it in future Eberron campaigns. Right now, however, it's sitting as my windows background. Thanks for all your hard work |
| #34elondirJul 21, 2008 13:43:42 | Absolutely beautiful! Can you do the other continents too? |
| #35shamurai7Jul 24, 2008 18:44:35 | pretty please the other continents!!! you already have your textures so half the work is done already!!!! |
| #36lord_tirianJul 25, 2008 5:48:31 | Absolutely beautiful! Can you do the other continents too? Can do and will - eventually - do. But I have first to get the labelling going - it's not half as fun as making the map itself. ![]() Or perhaps I'm doing other continents first and THEN do the labelling. ![]() Cheers, LT. |
| #37PhobosJul 25, 2008 8:32:08 | Still love it from when I posted last time. Few minor things. 1. Snow and ice are also still need for the principalities, esp the far northeast islands where Vol lives. 2. I'd like a more cloud-like look to the mournlands, right now it resembles the texture covering the wastes on the west coast. Did I mention however I love it? ![]() |
