| #1Mercury_the_PolishedAug 27, 2010 10:56:29 | We'd bankrupted the Aurum, taken over two different criminal cartels, and made serious headway into starting the Last War all over again, to say nothing of the individual lives we'd torn apart. I was the Artificer, and a Warforged, at that (a poor choice, mechanically speaking, but the idea of a team medic who didn't know the meaning of pain always appealed to me), and at some point we had more money than we strictly knew what to do with. I started churning out all sorts of weird, useless, low-level gadgets, starting with predictable items such as goggles that do nothing and devolving into miniature automatons that distract enemies in combat by reciting Shakespeare and my army of Autonomous Kobold Puppets. Eventually I decided I wanted to map some of these out and make them at the very least marginally useful. THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF THIS ENDEAVOUR. Sure, it ain't much now, but give it some time. Am also interested in balancing these items out. Anyone else ever have any similar homemade items? Post 'em and I'll copy them into this post with your name on it. By category: Wondrous ItemsEyebrowplates Level 4 Despite being bolted to your brow these rectangular plates of low-grade iron (and for that sake, being made of iron) retains a relatively wide range of expression. Spring-loaded for those occasions when you desperately need to get rid of all expressive features for that non-denominational fantasy setting card game-face. Wondrous Item (embedded component) 840 gp Suggestion: You really should have the living construct racial trait to use this item, but if you're dumb enough to drill steel eyebrows into your skull then why the hell not?? ****. Property: While Charisma remains your dump stat, you gain a +1 to all Charisma-based skills to offset your natural penalty. Special: You don't gain this benefit unless Charisma is 10 or lower. Power (At-Will): Free action. Raise eyebrow tauntingly. Opponents may ignore their mark until the start of your next round, so long as they only target you and the character who marked them. Power (At-Will): Free action. Look scared. You take a -2 penalty to Intimidate checks, cannot mark enemies. Power (At-Will): Free action. Look angry. Gain a +2 racial bonus to your Intimidate skill, but you probably have that already and racial bonuses don't stack, so I guess this is pretty useless. Power (Daily): Minor action. You shoot your eyebrows in somebody's face. When using a ranged attack power with the Weapon keyword, you can use the eyebrows in place of your normal weapon, and you can do it even if your hands are full, bound, or (more likely) useless. The eyebrows a +2 proficiency bonus and dealing 1d6 damage and a range of 5/10, and dealing half damage on a miss. Special: The first time you use this power on an enemy, you gain combat advantage. If he survives the attack, he has learned the secret of your eyebrowplates and is forevermore immune to the CA effect of this weapon, although CA may still be gained from other sources. Special: Once this power is used, you must re-embed them to benefit from their abilities. Level 9: Eyebrows are treated as a +1 Magic Weapon. Level 14: Eyebrows are treated as a +2 Magic Weapon. Et cetera. |
| #2m4kitsuAug 30, 2010 16:09:39 | I... strongly suspect you've watched FLCL recently, but that might just be me projecting. That too too much Girl Genius... Anyway! I don't have stats for any of it, but here are a few wacky (and some not so) things my Warforged have done that might provide some inspiration for you: First 'Forged PC in the group had a stepladder and bucket seats installed, since the (really short) Artificer was lazy and didn't like walking. Same 'Forged also later acquired a circlet that projected a forcefield that kept the rain off. Did nothing else, offered no protection from anything... except normal, ordinary rain (campaign was in Sharn, so it made sense at the time, really). Another had light-up eyes. They didn't project a beam to see by or anything, they just lit up. 'Forged in question did use them once to pull off a beautiful Intimidate in a dark alley. Attached component: Monocle. Doesn't do anything, but it sure is classy. Embedded component: Glowy bits. The Warforged equivalent of undercarriage lighting or a cold cathode kit in your computer. Extra points if it's neon blue or green. Attached components: Spiky bits. Maybe adds a bit of extra damage in a grab or with melee attacks, but has the drawback of getting hung up on stuff really easily. Also doubles as a coat/hat rack. Embedded component: More Dakka. The Warforged is festooned with compartments that fire off dozens of tiny projectiles whenever the character makes a ranged attack. Provides a small damage bonus, but the player must yell "DAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKA!!!! (etc)" while making the attack. Attached component: Red paint job. Adds 1 to the 'Forged's speed when he runs or charges. Because Red Onez Go Fasta'. Character's mini must actually be painted red. ...okay, that's enough 40k jokes. |
| #3Mercury_the_PolishedAug 31, 2010 6:59:20 | You know, I like your style. Hmm. Another couple made useful (one given an upgrade!) and a final one for laughs. Tower Spit Deflector Shield Level 2 This weird device instantly dissipates precipitation. Should be useful for keeping your metallic bits from rusting in the rain. Wondrous Item (embedded component) 520 gp Requirement: Recipient must be able and willing (or at the very least restrained) when embedding this item. Property: Aura 1: You gain an aura that shields you and adjacent creatures from rain, fog, and snow; gain a +1 power bonus on Endurance checks against weather. Power (encounter): Minor action, burst 1. Ignore concealment (but not total concealment) from these sources until the end of your next round. Walking Chair Level 5 The legs of this chair are unusually locomotive for a furniture. How quaint. Wondrous Item 1000 gp Property: You gain a move speed of 6, and never need to make Endurance checks for movement. You lose all other forms of movement until you get out of the chair, however. Levitating Bean Bag Chair Level 25 This ornate bean bag is sewn from several flying carpets and the broken dreams of homeless orphans. Perfect for the lazy bastard who can't be bothered to move about himself. Wondrous Item 625,000 gp Power (At-Will): Move Action. A character on a levitating bean bag can mentally command it to fly 6 squares. It has a maximum altitude of 10 squares. If no rider is upon it, it hovers in place 1 foot above the ground. The bean bag's flight isn’t entirely stable; while in it, a rider takes a –2 penalty to AC and Reflex defense. The levitating bean bag can carry one Medium or Small character, like the flying carpet, but it is tailored towards weight-challenged individuals of up to 800 pounds. If a creature of more than 800 pounds are placed on it, the chair crudely deposits the tremendously obese character on the ground and firmly tells him to lose some weight before coming back. Light-Up Eyes Level 2 Kind of like the award-winning Delver's Light, but in your eyesockets. Wondrous Item (embedded component) 520 gp Requirement: You must be rotten stupid. Property: You lose your eyes, permanently blinding yourself. Power (At-Will): Free Action. The light-up eyes sheds dim light to a radius of 20 squares. Power (At-Will): Free Action. The light-up eyes sheds bright light to a radius of 20 squares. Power (At-Will): Free Action. The light-up eyes light sheds no light. |
